Looking for a not-quite-ABY switcher

Rather than switching a single bass between two amps, I'm looking to toggle between two basses into a single amp. I do not need to run both basses at the same time. Are there any cheap solutions out there to do this? Any schematics? Everything I'm finding is for 1 bass 2 amps rather than 2 bass 1 amp. Can I just build a passive ABY and use it backwards?

Or am I missing the point... is there an easier solution than a pedal? I would rather NOT have to swap my instrument cable to switch and my amp does not have two inputs.

You can use any passive AB switch and just turn it around. If you want to go a bit fancier, Radial and Lehle make some really nice switchers with features like buffering, indicator LEDs, level controls, silent switches, etc.

Thanks Crater, I may check that one out.

Do I need a buffer and leveling for this type of setup? My understanding is those features are only needed if you need A and B active at the same time.

No, you don't, unless for some reason you're using really long instrument cords (20+ feet) to connect to your amp. Even then, only if you're using a passive (as in not active) bass.

It would be simple to build one too, just an enclosure, three quarter-inch mono jacks, and a DPDT footswitch.
