I'm looking to upgrade to a really nice bass. I've been playing a '97 Godin BG-V and '79 Musicman Sabre, and I'm looking to find sort of a mixture of the two, except way nicer. Professionally, I play jazz and jazz/funk (Bebop to Early 70's Freddie Hubbard). Recreationally I get down on Phish, hip-hop, and jamtronica-ish things like The New Deal and Pnuma Trio.
In the $3000 to $4500 (+ if it's really worth it) range, what kind of basses should I be looking into. Preferably a 5-string. I'm a fan of Sadowsky, but I love a good singlecut body. Any suggestions?
