Looking for advice on a class D amp and portable rig

I’ve read as many threads that I could find on class D amps but I’m looking for some input from my fellow Talk Bass Community. I’m just getting back into playing bass after having to put down the bass for a bum shoulder but I’m back and I’m looking for a small portable rig.

I have two small children and I work nights so I’m looking for an amp with a headphone jack for silent practice and have enough power to play live with a rock band. I use a Spector NS4 and I’m looking at two amps a Mesa 800+ with two Subway cabs or a GK Mb Fusion 800 with either two Subway cabs or an Aguilar 212 cab.

Many class D amps have SB AUX in - for playing mp3 music. And a headphone socket.
Fender Rumble 500 and 200 north do. Both come in combo form also.
Genz Benz , now discontinued.
Genzler Magellan amps
Bergantino Forte and B|Amp
are all amp's with aux in, and headphone capabilities

Dont forget to take a look at the Quilter Bass Block 800, a really good amp if you're not looking for a specific tone ( Ampeg, GK etc).

Check out my DNA 800 amp fir sake in the classifieds. One of few that has left and right RCA inputs with a volume control and built in compressor and 6 lbs!

I have an MB500 (used, from a fellow TB'er) and both a new and used NEO 212 (used off of Reverb)... if you just consider the used, you can get a system meeting your needs, at an awesome price!

1. I have the Mesa D800+. Awesome head, combine it with a Genzler Bass Array 12-3 cab, great combination that is high power and portable.

If you're already considering the Mesa rig, there's really no reason to look elsewhere.

Mesa stuff is great, I'll also put in a plug for RevSound cabinets. I own two (2-10 and 2-8) and both are great, lightweight cabs. They pair extremely well with Mesa D800+. For rock band, I'd consider 2 - 112s or 115s (or one of each). A few hundred bucks less each than Subways. Hand-made in New Hampshire, call the owner (David Luke) and he'll talk you through the best options for your needs. Great guy to do business with!

I use a pair of MBF 800's, cant go wrong. I also use a GK NEO 212, I cant recommend GK highly enough for rock/metal.

Mesa D800+, Genzler Magellan or Aguilar AG 700 would be good. Full disclosure: I own the Subway D800.

I love Markbass gear but if you can get the Messa 800 I'd go for that. Tried it. Loved it. Just too expensive this side of the water. Do try the Ninja and 121lite stuff before you do.

Genzler all the way. I’ve only used Genz Benz and now Genzler for years and don’t know what else I’d use. The product is amazing. I played a jazz quartet outside at a farmers market (drums, vibes, guitar) and a trio (guitar, drums) outside for a wedding and use my MG350 combo with a single BA10-2 cab. I could feel the ground vibrate at the weding on he golf course. My Roscoe B string was thunderous. All from a 175 Watt 1x10 combo. Amazing gear and customer service. Jeff called me on a Saturday morning to help with an issue. That’s service.

there is a lot of good stuff out there..for class D... I like the Glockenklang Blue Rock...it has everything you are looking for and more.......[Invalid or Expired Link Removed].........................for cabinets..I really like these 4x12 cabs..these are 8 ohm..get 2 cabs and have 4 ohms jumping them together..eight 12 inch cones is king of the hill..and will really cut through...but one cabinet will get the job done.........HT412 Bass Cabinet - Hi-tone Amplification

I'll always recommend the Markbass CMD 121P compo. I recently sold mine here on TB because I'm not gigging, so my little PJB Briefcase is plenty for now.

Anyway, the Markbass 1x12" combo is small, very light, and shockingly loud. Quite heavy in the bass and low-mids. A bit of the boxy thump of an old Ampeg B15N ... but louder and cleaner.

Echoing the Genz-Benz / Genzler suggestions from above.

Here's my practice rig. Aux in / phones out. Definitely punches above its weight. Sounds amazing.

Previous iterations have included a Tecamp Puma and a GB Streamliner. All were awesome. But this is my current favorite.
