I have no knowledge about uprights at all. I was wondering what would be a good starter. I need something really cheap, but not so cheap that Im getting crap. I am a big guy and I was wondering if it would effect me in playing upright bass. Im a really big guy, 330 pounds.Any help would be much apreciated.

Check out the newbie links here. They have a wealth of information. Then c'mon back with questions. IMO, you can do far better than an Engel for the same money and that goes well beyond the "skinny neck" issue.

I've bought 3 basses from www.bassesonline.com and been very happy with them all. My starter was a fully carved Roma for $800, and I'm now playing a fully carved Eberle that was about $1800. The Eberle, for the money, is fantastic - the thing sounds like a cello often, with a beautiful, singing tone. I couldn't be happier.
