Looking for pickups

I am a fairly new bass player, and i have stumbled upon an unfinished bass guitar, and I need help to finish it. I am having trouble finding pickups for it. The shape of the pickup holes is unusual, and differs from almost every bass guitar I have seen.

Any help? :\

Can't... stop... laughing...

It looks like a melted cyclops jazz pickup is supposed to go in there. But the screw holes indicate the pickups were bezel mounted, so it almost doesn't matter what shape the pickup routes are. You might consider routing the holes bigger and more rectangular to put in soapbars.

I'm glad atleast someone is enjoying this :D
Thats my problem, I have absolutely no clue as to what would fit in here even if I were to bezel mount it.

And routing bigger holes is kinda my last option :P I'm still hoping to find something that fits :D

It looks like two Jazz pups were in there before. I would follow the advice and route the holes out a little more depending on what youre going to put in it. Those droopy looking parts in the holes were routed for the screws of course. But yeah, two J pups.

?????!!!??

In which alternate universe do you find J pickups that fit in those holes?

Very well then, routing it is :p

Any pickup recomendation for a newbie bass player? What can i put in it once I route it? :p
Bartolini makes quite a wide range of pickup shapes and sizes. If I were you, I would measure the length and total width of those weird holes, then look for a pickup that is that same size or a little bigger, then route new pickup holes to fit. If you are going to paint it a solid color, you can just drill out the screw holes, glue some dowels in there, and sand it flat.

Or you could find bezels that fits those holes, find pickups that fit the bezels, and route whatever you need to route after you get them all together on one place.

How do those not look like J pup pockets!? May be a little short but that's the closest thing I can think of. It's not crazy

Sorry, man, but it's absolutely nuts. It's one thing to say they those holes look kinda like J pickups in a weird abstract sort of way, it a completely other thing to say those holes used to have J pickups in them.

How do you figure? Seriously. The ripples or whatever you want to call them, are for screw holes/where the pup comes out/screw mounts. The length looks like a J pup. Maybe a little shorter. A tad. But I don't see why that's such a crazy thought to say that J pups were in there before....

As I said I stumbled upon this guitar body (and neck) in a friends attic. They have nothing on them, only the bare wood. No frets, no pickups, nothing!

It could have been some sort of custom job, or something... :\
I'll just route them for soapbars, and ad some bezel to it to hide the holes a bit. I'll definetly make it work!

Made me laugh so hard on this one xDDD "Weird Holes" :D Kinky ;D

It's some kind of bass version of the telecaster guitar bridge pickup or a mutant tele bass
pup built like the six string version

Here's a Bill Lawrence tele pup for reference.

Are you sure it's a bass and not a six string?

I'm laughing as I write this, because I can't tell if you're serious, stoned, or just yanking my chain.

I would absolutely LOVE to see a picture of a J pickup you think would fit in those holes.

Those are screw holes for a bass bridge. If it was a guitar bridge, it would be closer to the neck. And if it was through holes for a 6 string, there would more than likely be 6 holes. :p
