Double Bass looking for the right speaker

my better halfs loud speaker took a crap this past weekend,,,, its only a 35 watt amp but she uses it for small rooms and as a monitor mostly. i need some recommendations for a good replacement bass speaker..... the smallest wattage that most good speakers are rated at is 150,, BTW its a 10 inch speaker. .............................. any ideas ??

Is there anything that identifies the driver that went bad? If so, then specs might be available and that will make the task of finding a suitable replacement easier.

its a small double ported cab,,,,, the speaker specs are 150 watt 8 ohm. the speaker is a generic of some kind,,, it doesn't even have a name on it....... possible alphatone ,,, since its a johnson brand cab and electronics,,,,,, she likes it because of the weight a ease of transport..
i was thinking an eminence BP-102 ,, i know its 200 watts but i think it would sound better for double bass. 79.00..... or a celestion green label perhaps.
i thought if i could find a decent 10" speaker for less then 90 bucks it would be worth the trouble of swapping out.

P.S. she does run a fishman platinum EQ if that makes any difference

There's no issue using a speaker that can handle more power than will be supplied. When I mentioned specs, I was thinking about far more detail, e.g., free-air resonance, etc. (see here). The idea is to get something close to the original. I think the suggestion to contact the manufacturer is a good one.

Terry, The Eminence BP-102 would not be my choice for a replacement speaker here. It is designed as a low-frequency driver and not as a full-range speaker. It is very similar to the woofer in the Acme Low B1. It also has one of the lowest sensitivity ratings of speakers that are commonly used for musical instrument amplification (which means a lot of power is needed to drive it -- perhaps 10X as much as a speaker with a higher sensitivity rating). Instead I would look at one of the neodymium speakers made for use with bass instruments by Eminence or Celestion. Much lighter than the BP102, higher sensitivity and more full range. Good luck!
