IMO, you and your setup and the rest of your gear is whats going to make the biggest difference here. I have some of the same OD/dist boxes a lot of other guys have and I dont sound anything like them. It goes the other way too, Ive bought certain pedals to try and mimic someones sound back in my early days of effects and it never worked. Because I didnt have all the other components the other guy had, or his fingers or playing style. It may have gotten in the same realm, but I couldnt get really close.
There are def some pedals out there that have characteristics that shine through in most anyones playing/rig like DG or maybe certain fuzzes. But again, IMO, it all comes down to your playing and your rig and what that adds/brings to the table. You can get a regular ol' tube screamer and turn it into something that causes a fellow bassist to flip on his head wondering, "what the hell is that sound and how did you get it?!?!?!"

It's supposed to be a simple wooly mammoth clone. It's really not that original really. Probably wayyy overpriced as well.
I'd highly recommend the Tronographic Rusty box.
The thing is insane from just a clean boost to full harsh noise. Has 2 gain stages as well so can have even more options than just the one pedal.
I run it through a blender pedal so I can keep some of my clean tone running at the same time and it's the best distortion I've ever used
If you want to use something bit more random I'd also recommend the Earthquaker Devices BitCommander can use the octave up and sub octave to get a full on crush - was great when backing solos

Last Gasp is a really awesome company that's lesser known. Tons of options, too. I'm having a hard time holding out from ordering the Sick Pitch King, JR. ring mod.
The Wooly Mammoth IS definitely wayyyy overpriced. But, the modified clones of it, the ones that work with active/buffered signals, are a dime a dozen and should only go for 50-75$ on ebay. The Yeti is just a copy of those cheapo clones.
I really want to buy some Idiotbox pedals. These three have piqued my interest.
LOVE my Blower Box! Definitely a good choice. Idiotbox seems to have plenty of "odd" choices out there, and generally good reviews. Besides BB, however, I have no first hand experience. BB is worth every penny, though, and more!
Can it be washed? It could be the first dirt pedal with a washing machine rating
Does it have less dirt after a wash? This pedal is the source for a LOT of dirt jokes
