MI Audio Blueboy Deluxe OD.
It's boutique, built for guitar but works really well for bass - you can add lows until it gets too boomy - so no cut in the lower registers. And apart from that it's a well behaved low gain OD that reacts really well to playing style. I love mine.

I still say for "unique", get an old DOD Gonkulator, or the iStomp which emulates it...

you contradict yourself. To get a sound that none of us have you surely need a pedal that none of us have.
So all I can add is to NOT buy a Sansamp PBDDI coz you'll sound like many of us.

or think outside the box and get some non bass pedal, might not sound good, but could be unique, the mxr blue box or the DOD buzz box (clone of the mxr) will get you a unique sound, Joyo makes a fuzz octave pedal real cheap, fuzzrocious makes unique fuzz pedals, though they're rising out of obscurity as a business so their sounds may not be unique soon, I have the bdpg from them, I feel its one of the most unique, individual sounding preamps I've ever played through, though it isn't gimmicky, you can find/shape a awesome dirty sound with it.... I admit that I keep my favorite players in mind when shopping around for gear, but I know it will still sound like me in the end...

I'm messing with the Gonkulator setting on my BP355, and it's a helluva lot of fun with a 5th-up fixed pitch harmonizer.

Also, I'm a fan of the Catalinbread Heliotrope for a nasty drive that's more ring-modded robot orgy/massacre than classic distortion or fuzz. You can dial in anything from subtle pain to crushing agony, and can control the ring mod effect intensity to a nice degree, too. It's hard to make your MAIN driver, but I bet it could be done.
