looking into having a seperate cab for my distortion sound

don't let these guys scare you away from running a stereo rig.

As i said before i run this way all the time

Distorted Signal Path = Bass---> A/B/Y---> Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah---> Vodoo Lab Sparkle Drive----> Devi Ever Dark Boost---> EHX BBM---> Sansamp RBI---Hartke HA3500 (or HA2500 depends on gig)---> 4 ohm 4 x 10 Cab

Clean Signal Path = Bass---> A/B/Y---> Sansamp RPM or Sansamp Bass DI---> Hartke HA3500 or LH500 (depending on gig)---> 4 ohm 1 x 15 Cab

i also have a Chorus, Flanger, and an Octave pedal on a seperate loop than can be injected into the mix when needed

carrying two amps and two pre-amps can be a pain in the backside....but i have tried gigs without this setup and thought the sound was ok there is NOTHING like running a stereo dual rig set-up (especially for the stuff i play...a lot of Doom Stoner and Sludge...)

you could simplify by running a dual channel power amp, which i think somebody mentioned earlier....i tried that approach as well and prefer the coloring of the Hartke amps which are cheap and available just about everywhere new or used...

and if you want to carry it a step further throw an octave up into the distortion path which even though it still won't sound exactly like another guitar it will get you closer...

yeh from the things ive heard it sounds to good to not try it out!

yeh i thought about the power amp thing but i love my pro 6 to much to get rid of it!

plus with my band we've been saying for a while it be cool if there was something dif about are sound! i think that having this setup would give that.

im trying to find out what gk 400rb's go for over here in the uk. 280w should be plenty for the effects stuff to come thru, and im gonna use a 210 to keep the size down, and ive found the ab swtich its pricey as tho! at 189 quid!! so looking for alternatives atm.

its gonna take me a while to get together hopefully no more than 3 months tho.

You could try wiring a bass in stereo--like what Billy Sheehan does. Or you could do something with a Rickenbacker wiring harness, perhaps?

You can split the signal from your bass, or you can have two outputs on our bass and they never cross. I've done this on a couple basses and it can make you sound massive. That also means that you have twice the gear. But I like that idea. :cool:

no good as i love the basses ive got!

i went to try things out today!

heres what i tried, i played thru the 210 fender combo, and wasn't to impressed really, just didn't seem to sound very good, with some effects thru it.

tried a digitech whammy pedal, was cool and another way for me to split my signal, but didnt sound right but might be something i get for fun later?

the ehx bass balls, which is a wicked little pedal! that will be getting bout when i get paid!

but they didnt have anything else i could try for the dual amp thing! there guitar tech guy looked a bit dumbfounded when i said what about a guitar amp thru a bass cab! be a bit of a pain to match stuff up but im thinking it'll sound cool! thing is no place in there right minds is gonna let me play bass thru a guitar head around here!

hi guys im doing some recordings on the weekend and im gonna try using our drummers trace elliot v4 to put some distortion thru, but its come around so quickly that im struggling to find a way to split my signal.

the more i think bout it the lehle splitter box i tried was broke as there was a significant drop in volume when both channels were on, so wnt be getting that.

anyone know anything i can pickup asap? also is it ok to run a head with no cab?

just got me my distortion amp! im ready for the backlash!

just the head! the cab is so i can use it for practice.

plugged it into an ampeg 8x6 and its sounds wicked with some distortion on it so saving up for the cab now! then my rig of doom will be complete! well nearly a rig of doom?

There is a way to get your distortion and your low end. Run parallel effects. Run a clean and a dirty signal parallel and mix them together.

Here's my setup.

First I run into an equalizer then I split the signal into 4 parallel signals with a rolls mixer.

1 - I run one into the Line6 bass pod where I model an acoustic 360 with a rat distortion pedal. I use this to get a retro growlly distorted sound. Or I also model an Ampeg fliptop with the Rat Distortion pedal.

2 - The second signal goes into a Mxr bass di+. I use this pedal to get a clean modern sound. It also has a distortion button that can give a moderate to extreme amount of modern distortion.

3 - The third signal goes into a Marshall Guv'nor. This gives me an old 60s marshall stack sound. This can go from a small amount of distortion to an over the top marshall sound. This effect can give you a Chris Squire Yes sound or a heavy metal sound, or just a subtle amount of distortion.

4 - The fourth signal goes into a Tech21 vt bass pedal. With this effect I get a slightly dirty Ampeg SVT bass amp sound with a tube like growl.

Then I remix the 4 signals back together and run it into a bass amp, or pa, or studio mixer. Because the signals are parallel I can mix clean and overdriven sounds together and still get effect and a sound that punches through the mix.

right i love the 210 cab! am thinking something! rather than get the massive 8x6 cab although very nice trying to take the 610 and that to gigs could be awkward!

would 2 of these 210s handle the distortion? the lm2 with just one is punchy and bloody loud for the size of the setup, thinking it could be cool to stick one of these cabs either side of the 610?

i believe there 200w rms?
