My Dad bought me the B15N in 1966. I offered to pay him back in full after 2 months of playing. He wouldn't take the money. Fully expect to get this back once the kick starter campaign is done. Maybe I can count on you for $50? :0) Thx again.
I played one at the local Guitar Center a while back. Sounded great, solidly built, played effortlessly - I can't imagine anything beating it for the price.
So, did you whittle it down to choosing from a select few?
Probably a Fender Jaguar but going to stick with my Peavey Foundations 1980's bass for now.
I recommend you wait until you can double that budget, too few worth while basses in that price range!
Thanks I agree. I have a peavey 1980's foundation bass and since I'm playing it through a 1966 Ampeg B15N it is more than adequate.

I'm also in the market for a short scale, and both of these are on my short list.
The Supro Huntington has been getting a TON of attention for the past year or so, but I have to say, that Reverend Dub King is pretty amazing.

The sound that he gets around 4:20 is just out of this world amazing.
Depends on how much you are willing to spend.
If money is no issue, I'd no doubt get a Serek bass.

And here's a demo of their Sacramento model, though the specific bass used in the video is 32" medium scale, but it comes in 30" short scale version as well, and you can get different pickups installed from stick if you should wish that too:

In the middle kind of price class there is something like the Fender Mustang, either as P/J bass, or a bit more expensive the version with an original Mustang split mini P type pickup.
In the budget end Squier Jaguar, Gretsch Junior Jet and Ibanez short scale Talman basses are all great value for the money.
Also in the cheap budget end is the fabulous Ibanez Mikro bass, which has a scale length of just 28,6", compared to the regular 30" short scale length.
I personally love these small cheap basses, that are extraordinary well build for the little money you pay.
And they don't look bad either, here's the Mikro GSRM20B version, the B models comes with black hardware and either in walnut or weathered black finish (here in the weathered black finish):
The Danelectro Longhorn bass is absolutely worth checking out as well, even if it is a bit special.
Personally I love how it looks and plays.
It's in the more expensive budget or lower middle kind of price class, is semi hollow, has 24 super easily accessible frets, and has a more narrow string spacing than usual, think 16 or 17 mm, as far as my memory serves me:

My Jerry Jones Longhorn, which is a higher end clone of the Danelectro ones (now out of production and hard to come by used) actually sounded absolutely amazing through my Ampeg B15S, running the 2 lipstick pickups of the bass in series.
A stock option on the pickup selector of the Jerry Jones but not on the Danelectro, so in case you would like to do the same it will require some rewiring, even if that won't exactly be a big or difficult procedure as long as you got a soldering iron and is fairly capable of using it.
If money is no issue, I'd no doubt get a Serek bass.

Actually, I have a Gretsch g5442b, a short scale, and a Ibanez Mezzo, a medium scale.
The Gretsch is well made, good pick-ups and electronic. The neck is beautiful.
The Ibanez is very fun to play, I love the 32’ neck but it’s a little bit light with pick ups and electronic.
Before, I had a Fender Starcaster, who I find really beautiful but sounds bad with lot of noise.
