Looking to try something new

I normally use DR Sunbeams on most of my bass's...which are passive Fender P's, J's an old Stingray for flavor I like the Sunbeams, but just curious to try something else and open to suggestions. I prefer nickel wrap, and round core because the flexibility and tension are easier on my aging hands I played Dunlop SB's but found them a tad thin sounding, but loved them for tension and feel.

Funny you should mention RC Boomers... I'm in the same boat as you with my aging hands needing something lighter. I have a set of RCB 40-95 waiting to be put on my P bass when the Pressurewounds on it are ready to be replaced. The only thing is that might be quite a while yet.

I'm also a sunbeam user, and I've enjoyed both Pure Blues and RC Boomers. Similar feel to SB with more low mid punch, the PB are still on my Jazz. I also liked Chrome super light 40-95 for a modern flat with ease of playing.

Yes, DR PB's are very similar to Sunbeams, as you say good on a Jazz...they maybe a bit too similar to the Sunbeams. Amazon had a set of RC boomrs for like $18...i went ahead and ordered a set. But id still like to experiment a bit more before gigging season starts... i have a handful of upcoming gigs, lets hope they hold

My P bass is currently wearing the PW 40-96 and the Boomers 40-120 are on my Yamaha right now, and I find both sets to be comfortable enough without feeling too loose. That's why I'm curious about the RC Boomers 40-95 to see what kind of difference the round core would make in terms of overall playing feel. Interestingly enough, in terms of the actual tension (as in pulling weight), the regular Boomers 40-55-75-95 and the RC Boomers 40-55-75-95 are nearly identical.

I think its tension(pull) vs stiffness(flex)....i find hex core's tend to be a bit to stiff and my hands get sore quicker. From what I remember RC Boomers are noticeably less stiff than regular boomers. I found the Medium Nickle SB's to have nearly the perfect feel and flex...just wasnt totally happy with the tone for a general purpose string.

These are Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats. They aren't for everyone but I find them to be very easy to play and they give a really great sound. They're typically $60 but they're worth every penny and everybody should try them at least once.

Fodera makes round core nickel and round core steel, in various gages. (sorry for the long link) I like both the SB and Foderas, which seem to last a bit longer IME

TI flats will make your P feel brand new and even the neck will feel smoother and it will weigh 2 pounds less. It just will. Am I right TI people? I love TI Jazz on a P.

i love the feel and play. I love how they sound with the tone rolled off.. but can't stand them with tone above 50%.

Oddly enough Ive never tried Hi-beams because of the perceived "brightness", and have been afraid of SS and fret wear, so haven't played on SS strings as far back as i can remember. Ill have to give them a try.

TI jazz rounds are great. Not for everyone but two of my basses currently wear them. They will sound different than your DR's (which I really like too).

Something that will feel and sound similar to your DR's but is a different flavor are Pyramid Rounds. A less expensive option I like are Labella RX or whatever they are called now.
