Loopers?

Just rec'd BP355 and it has been a blast to play with! For the $$ (about $200) it offers a pretty sweet package (tons of features). One of its cool features is a phrase looper. I have never used a looper before. Is there some trick to using the looper so that the loop will play "in time," rather than herky-jerky starts and stops? Are other devices that are dedicated solely to looping easier to use to get cleaner loops? What loopers have worked for you guys?

Two more recent loopers have come out recently that look amazing:

Pigtronix Infinity stereo looper, record and save loops to micro SD, also claims to have sample-accurate MIDI sync, which is a big deal if it works as well as they claim. You can record two independent loops with independent lengths (track 2 is a multiple of track 1)

Looperlative LP2 is another high-end small-format looper in the $300+ range, allows for a lot of manipulations, including expression for loop feedback. records to SD.

Last would be the EHX 2880 that's been around a while, multi-track looper, have to look that one up.

These higher-end loopers have high-enough fidelity that you can record sketch tracks to them and dump them into a recording session. Pretty cool.

I wouldn't reccomend it to loop bass over because you'll loose a lot of your signal with it I because the gain has to be low so it won't clip. Multi effects like the boss or pod hd have loopers and work great for what your looking for.

Nephilymbass,

I'm new to this and looking at buying a new multi-effects unit soon myself.
Are you saying that the Boss and Pod don't have this gain/clipping issue?

Greg

It comes all down to timing. Watch El Ten Eleven on youtube. It's all about counting and perfecting it.

Definitely this. I'm not going to say the hardware doesn't matter, but even if you have a really great looper (the Boss RC50 is one I have been eyeing for years, along with the EHX mentioned above) you still have to have great timing and an ability to play a bar while thinking 2-4 bars ahead.
