loose pickup wire

Hi,

i just came home and brought a pair of new Fender vintage original pickups. They sound fine but few turns of wire on each pickup are a bit loose and i'm afraid of future damage. I'm thinking of dipping it in wax, as it should be (there doesn't seem to be a wax on these).
Any tips..?

Wax potting pickups isn't quite the same as dipping them in wax. Wax potting means using the proper wax at the proper temprature and letting them soak long enough so that the coil is well saturated.

If it's not getting bad feed back I think you should put the covers on and let it ride. Not that it's impossable to fix or anything... but if it aint broke...

Maybe small pieces of very sticky tape (like "duck" brand duct tape) - just enough to prevent further unwinding.

which part of the pup has loose wire, the actual windings on the pickup or the connection wires? if its the connection wires id slide some heat shrink tube over it, slide it to wherever its come lose and shrink it, if the actual windings on the pup are coming loose...i dont know what that will do to sound, but i would imagine a bit of painters tape (the tan/khaki colored paper stuff) wrapped around it would do, i'd stay away from duct tape or similar since i may have some sort of latent conducting value and electrical tape never seems to stay stuck

Loose places are on the bottom side of the coil, just few turns where the wire can ba damaged by a pickup cover. Firstly i was thinking about faw aimed drops of clear wax but tape will be better, especially this painter's one ('non-aggressive' paper-based).
Gonna try it.

FWIW:

good idea to inspect the coils whenever you get pups. I would have sent them back. You may not be able to now that they're installed. If they won't, you could wrap some tap around them but you better get it right the first time cause chances of moving the tape without breaking the winding would be slim and once that's done, no sound.

If your not going to return them or have them potted you could just used some Krazy Glue to hole the windings out of the way of the cover.

I would avoid tape if they havn't been potted.
