Losing Interest

So due the the Covid -19 situation, all our gigs have been cancelled, particularly at a busy time here in FL for festivals etc.
I understand this is a necessary move and I am not the only one feeling the effects.
My point is that I have happily spent many hours practicing material and rehearsing with the band, and always looked forward to working on new songs.
I know it should be an opportunity to practice more as there is much empty time now that clubs, bars, restaurants and gathering are closed, but I am finding difficult to get motivated as the targets have been removed.
Wondering if others feel the same way or I am just nuts!
No, I’m with you. But it’s more than just the short term closure. I think this will change live music as we know it, and IDK how much gigging will be available. Even if that’s wrong, this is hitting us hard financially. I’m already thinking of selling stuff, but wonder if there will even be a market. Sad times...

But I’m trying to take it one day at a time and not get carried away with what if’s. So far ive just been running through my favorite songs for a sense of comfort, but I do have a practice plan for more enriching activities for the coming weeks.

good luck

Oh, Yeah! All our gigs Here in Central New York have been cancelled. Admit that I am much disappointed. I'm the oldest in the band; 67. So, my wife and I are taking the advice to limit/eliminate unnecessary social contact with others. For me that includes foregoing weekly basement band rehearsals. Younger guys still want to practice, but I've made a decision to protect myself and my wife. I don't see this situation getting better anytime soon in NY state, so am resigned to the likelihood of no band activities for many weeks...maybe 'till fall or beyond. Of course, this has put a damper on my enthusiasm...BIG TIME! But not getting into self-pity as a replacement for music. Am reinvigorating other activities that I CAN pursue. We're ok here, but so many others have to deal with much more serious challenges...loss of job, health issues....missing my music is nothing in comparison!
Where you at? I’m in Ithaca!

Whether I'm in a band that plays regularly or not, I always play. My P bass is usually within arms' reach, as is the amp switch. I play along with things I'll probably never play live, even songs I kind of don't like. I even learned Carry On My Wayward Son, even though I don't really like Kansas, just for the heck of it. One of my games is to find a song I've heard all my life and probably took for granted, and see how well I could play along with it by ear simply on the basis of how many times I've heard it. Some times I do better than others, but at least it keeps me on my toes. But, that's just me. It's just how my mind works, I guess.

Here in New Zealand we just gone into lock down. No shops. No visiting. No band practice. Had all our gigs cancelled which is great for our new guitarist to get his end up and running and polished but I'm gonna struggle with motivation.
