Lost in translation (US to UK)

LAMO - this thread is hilarious, a total tonic to this very boring afternoon at work!!!
I find it absurd that Americans use the word "elevator" when "lift" clearly makes more sense and is MUCH easier to spell.
Its actually only really used in Dublin. THough Jamaicans are kinda similar in "dat" they Don't prounce there TH's so well.
Dat=that
Dis=This
Does=those
Dem=Them
Ps i lived in Glasgow for a year and still find it hard to understand your accents!
In fairness, Liverpool : "Dey do doe don't dey?" = "they do though, don't they?" 
I suppose then that "de Pool" is close, but if we're being strict it'd be "de Pewel"
When I was in Oklahoma last year and found it almost impossible not to pick up that southern drawl when I was there! It's such a relaxing way to talk!!

The last one was the subject of a great story. There was a group of us in Holland and we met up with some gorgeous English girls at the Amstel Light factory tour. Well fast forward a few hours and we're all out drinking together. One of my buddies (who I've called Staypuff for YEARS, which usually gets shortened to puff) asked me for a smoke. I said "sure thing puff." The girls gave us really odd looks and then lost it once both sides were explained.

What if you take an elevator down? I mean, its an elevator. It makes you go high, ie elevating. So, neither word makes much sense.

Try translating a black country accent!!! A lot of Americans have problems with it..
