Loud passive bass

Get an old p-bass and put Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders in it! Out of all the basses I own and I have ever know, my PASSIVE p bass with QPs is the the loudest bass I own.

And it is available well under $500 too! Hint hint!

I would second the G & Ls too.

Hands down a early 70's mudbucker Tele. Those suckers are super loud as loud as any active bass I have owed or played..trust me.

Lol I love posts like this. First, can you get N early 70 mudbucker tele for $500 even in pieces and gutted? Second, if its possible HONESTLY what are the OPs chances of finding a 40 year old vintage Fender $500 just sitting around in some shop or something waiting to be picked up?

It seems that there has been more focus on "loud" and high output than any other criteria that I put out there. That's probably my fault for making it the title of the thread, but the other criteria are just as important.

I would rather find something with a wide fretboard that is naturally growly than some random bass with high ouput.

Squier VM Telebass, $300 used (thereabouts), stupid hot pickup.

To OP. Squier VM Telebass has a wide fretboard and superchunky neck. It's not extremely growly though it's deep, low and loud, and with the tone opened up has SOME growl.

The Peavey T-40 has a wide fretboard, high output, and can be adjusted for growl. Also an excellent choice.

Both can be had for less than $500.

I totally thought that the SB-2 was active!



Also... the Squier Mike Dirnt Sig is crazy loud.

My Bronco with an SD Hotrails is even louder than my actives.
