Loud passive bass

I think an sx ursa 1 4-string bass would be right up your alley. it's a p-clone and a really good one. they cost $100 and they sound great. you can purchase these basses at rondo music. here's the link.

Another good choice for what your describing in a passive bass would be an arbor ab410 4-string bass. it's a passive musicman clone that has a bright punchy sound. it also has plenty of growl. these basses cost around $170 and you can easily find these basses on both amazon and ebay. really a great passive to own if you like musicman-styled bass guitars.

BC Rich Paulo warlock bass with spalted maple top on mahogany (thought prob nato version which is nice by me). Maple neck with ebony fretboard. BC Rich humbucker pups. Vol, vol, tone. Loud? Yup, ist the 2nd passive bass Ive owned which has an output not only as hot or hotter then many active basses. It also has the extended low bass and treble of actives. From their conversion to lowZ from highZ. Warm voiced bridge humbucker and articulate deep dark neck pup. Very good tone shaping via pup blending is bit easier with seperate volumes. Compared to most all actives more common blend control to me. Tone pot is also useful down to around 3-4. From 10 to about 8 you get more of a shift on treble voice rather then any cut. Then from 7-down to about 4 you get useful treble cut. Its the first passive bass Ive liked better passive rather then active.

Neck width is very comfortable 1 and 5/8 inches. Profile though little chunkier then Ibanez and ESP Ltd is actually easier playing to me somehow. Esp for multistring chord and strumming stuff. Neck profile is somehow better then the lower price warlock basses Ive tried (warlock1 and revenge). Pups diff better then the latters as well and lot louder.

Street price of $399 at internet stores that carry them.

Getting hard case for mine is proving problematic, (the BC Rich ones are not curently availabe as best I can tell). But the BC Rich Deluxe bass bag works well for it and padding is pretty good.

Do hotter pups then the average have a useful purpose? Of course they do. They can better drive pedals and amps preamp in many cases. And if well voiced they sound fantastic and closer to an active basses tone in some cases to.

Anyway, thats the best loud passive bass I know of. Excellent articulation in low bass content to for both neck and bridge pups to imo.

Up until today I would have half-heartedly agreed with you - but not tonight.

That dual-mirrored P-p'up bass I built fills the 'loud/passive' bill very well.

Changing nothing on the amp or any pedals and just going from one bass to another will give you a feeling for the differences, so I know there are things that can be heard in that way.

The Dual-P I built has one of the most powerful voices I've got in any of my basses now or ever had --- including any actives too.

It really is true - some gear is just louder and more powerful than others.

a passive Lakland Skyline with ChiSonic singles.
I have one, a US 55 JJ ChiSonic. Frankly, I myself don't need this kind of sound, but it has grown popular among the peeps. It is like a cross of an angry fat P with some J to it, and freakin' growly! Loud as an active bass, or a very close "almost".

Also, they now sell CS singles as aftermarket, or even as a retrofit for the 44-01 (appearance not shown).
Or else, they also come as humbuckers in a regular MM shell (appearance not shown), with a coil split. That is one earthshaker!

Well, that's just your experience. There are a lot more basses out there :-)

Active basses were not created for the purpose of being high output. As a result, some are, some aren't. Passive basses also have quite a variety of outputs...

Like I said, compare a G&L L2000 passive with your 10 favourite active basses, and see how many of them have a higher output.:-)

I have a bypass switch on my Stingray. In passive mode it is not noticeably quieter either... but of course, in active mode I can boost it quite a lot if I want to.
