Loud passive bass

I have a Schecter Raiden 4 and I love it. It's very growly and aggressive sounding. Lots of "meat" in the tone. And to boot, it's probably louder than most active basses I have ever played. It also has a wide fretboard, which is crucial to me - I can't stand those skinny, Ibanez Soundgear style necks that are super thin.

I'm looking to add another bass to my arsenal that is very similar in these qualities. I'd like to keep it under or around $500.

So, I would appreciate suggestions for a bass that has these qualities:

- Passive
- Loud
- Growly
- 4 String
- Wide fretboard
- Under $500

G&L Tribute JB-2. Killer jazz bass deal, or the SB-2 is also nice.

The only thing about the SB-2 is that there is no tone control. If you're like me, I like to roll off the highs.

Loud? as in high output? "Loudness" is really down to the amp.

Why do you want another with the same qualities? Assuming it's for tuning purposes or just having a spare, you could always get another of the same if you love the one you have so much.

Jazz basses can be growly, not a very wide neck though. Rickenbacker came to mind but failed on the price specification.

Your bass isn't and can't be "loud" further than what noise you can make on it acoustically. The "loud" is up to the pickups and/or preamp...

Yes, I want another one simply because half of our set is in a different tuning and tuning the bass between songs is unrealistic. But I like my tone, and don't want something too distinctly different. However, I do want something with a slightly different "flavor" to add a little variety to our performances.

The bass is loud because the pickups in it are outstanding (for a $300 bass).

G&L Tribute L-2000 would fit the bill too. Big fat neck, and passive mode sounds FANTASTIC!

Peavey T-40. Killer bass. I could never get a tone I liked using it, but I later found out it was my amp's fault, not the bass. :lol: I actually had to flip the active switch on my amp if I had to change basses. Super adjustable, too.

Wide nut width, and you can usually get them on eBay dirt cheap. I paid $350 for mine, and I had a sunburst with rosewood fretboard. Black and maple sells cheaper, usually.

Great choices. L2000 I had was freakin' loud!

Get a used G&L SB-1. This thing eats P-basses for lunch, and it's absolutely THE LOUDEST bass I've ever played. Easily twice as loud as my Rick or my active Jazz.
