Loud Rock with 2x12 cab?

I keep trying to use smaller cabs, but keep coming back to my Ampeg 6X10... even for quieter gigs with the upright playing jazz...just sounds better than my other cabinets. I would think 2X12 sould be ok with PA support as stated though I usually go for 4X10 at least for rock gigs which is probably just preference.

Loud scenario... I am thinking at least one guitarist with 100-120 tube head. Say Dual Rectifier into a 2x12 or 4x12 plus a hard-hitting drummer.

Generally I like to have double whatever the guitarist has. Part of the reason is just the psychological effect it has on the guitarist. In the volume war I like my guitarist to feel intimidated.

IMO a quality 410 or 212 can tend to keep up.

Agreed on all fronts.

Except, depending on the maker (Greenboy, Barefaced, LDS, etc), the 212 will actually be significantly louder than a commercial 410.

I don't have any experience with the CN212, but the LDS 15/6 I use absolutely buries any 410 I've ever owned or played through, including Aguilar, Ampeg, GK, Avatar, Mesa, Hartke, Carvin...I think that's it

Jim at Bergantino makes great stuff, unless the band is stupid loud or you're trying to carry a large room without PA support I'd imagine it'd work great.

Those supercabs are another animal entirely.

I play in a 6 piece party band and my GK MB212 doesn't have a problem
keeping up one bit. I always have PA support and for stage volume I never even have to go passed 9 o clock to be overpowering.

I know you asked about cabs, but even the combo is technically a cab/head just built into one enclosure so I figured it'd be worth chiming in.

I've used my GK 700RB-II with an Avatar Neo 2x10 and kept up fine with an absurdly loud metal band (like, singer uses two 2x15 PA cabs just for himself). I don't have much experience with that particular 2x12, but I am sure if there are 2x10s that can do it, there must be a 2x12 somewhere that can as well.

I play in a classic rock band with a full horn section. My Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 and neox 212t is more than I ever even come close to needing. I mean easy as pie. But we can mix sound in this band and everyone else stays out of my "space". If you don't do the mix well, or you have a bunch of bandmates who only care about hearing themselves, all bets are off. For a 2x12 or anything else for that matter.

I'm using a RevSound RS212T S version by David Luke and a TC Electronic BH550. Great sound, tone and volume.

I use my Streamliner 600 and Genz NeoX212t in a fusion rock band where I HAVE to wear earplugs at rehearsals. It handles it all just fine.

If your band mates subscribe to the idea of keeping your stage volume reasonable and using the drummer as the volume ceiling (i.e., not playing so loud it starts to drown out the drummer), you would be fine with around 300w into a 2X12. That keeps up with the loudest drummers I know.

But since you specifically mentioned your guitar players, that tells me THEY probably set the volume ceiling by playing much louder than the drummer. In that case, whether or not your 2X12 rig will keep up totally depends on how loud your loudazz guitar players get. I have guitar combos that would be hard for you to match with a 300w 2X12 bass combo.

I used to use a CN212 and an AE112 stack with a 2 ohm amp in a very loud SRV type Blues/Rock/R&B band. What a great sound!

Now to get the same volume and fantastic tone I'm using 2 Barefaced Super Compacts and now I can use my 4 ohm amps. I always play a 5 string bass.

I don't know how to compare your band and mine, but I prefer not to stress my gear. If you're pushing 2 cabs hard I'd always add more speakers. I wouldn't use a regular 212 on it's own in my band. The exception is that I find Barefaced able to handle much more volume whilst retaining the tone. I always wear custom ear plugs.

The bottom line is, if you are unsure, more speakers is never a bad thing.

When my guitarist and drummer start getting cocky, I just throw the 700rbII on top of the 810.... Puts them in their place real quick. That rig will blur vision from 40 feet away. It's perfect using my 2x112 series 1 gk neo's. From a tonal perspective, my old gk400rb series 1 is beautiful, yet just enough volume.

Use a Markbass ninja 212 Cabinet and i keeps up with 2 peavey 6505+ 120watt heads and 2 marshall 412 cabinets and a loud drummer.

you should be fine.

When 212 neo cabs got popular there were quite a few that got blown up. Loud but not all that and the bag of chips loud. If 410 doesn't handle the situation I think you might be needing 4x12.

Do any of you use a 2x12 cabinet in a heavy rock band? Can it compete with the guitar? I´m using the Gallien Krueger 1001rb and was wondering if the Bergantino CN212 (for example) would bring enough punch for this setting?

Oh I'd really love to think about a 2x12" it seems like exactly what I want aswell...but will I ever be entirely happy with it? I was entirely happy with my mesa 6x10 and the berg 6x10 has been inspiring some gas of late. Not for all but I really love the tilt and roll of a 6x10. So my vote is for the NV610T and be happy and keep these full stack screechers in check lol. Best of luck.

Forget the 2x12. It's not going to be a significant upgrade over the 4x10. Instead consider going with a 4x12. You will feel and hear that low B substantially more than you are now. The GK 4x12 is a killer cab too!

I used a CN212 for years in a rock band and it did fantastic.
I used various pairs of 1X12's for most of my rock bands. The ones I had (and have) all do well.
