Love the roadworn basses.. BUT

I have seen this. I mean yes people do smoke in gigs down here butbi only seen one guy do it while he played. I don't see why they have to put it on their instruments, there's enough damn smoke in the air, they don't need to even bother lighting one up all they have to do is friggen breath. Can't they just not smoke for a good hour?

I'm with the OP. I don't mind the roadworns, but I hate cigarette burned headstocks -- or simulated cigarette burned headstocks as the case may be. Hey, a lot of dirty hippie musicians didn't bath often enough back then either (some still don't unfortunately), why not simulate a little BO and other hygienic nastiness for the roadworns too :eyebrow:


edit: btw, I'll be 40 soon, so I'm not too young to remember people smoking -- dirty hippies either ;)

that depends. if you dont mind the difference in neck profiles, fret width, body woods, fingerboard woods, capacitors, nitro vs. poly, different manufacturing processes, different wire and magnets in the pickups, different hardware and numeroues cosmetic changes then no, there really isn't a difference between a '57, a 70s and a present day P-Bass.

Good point ;)

The Road Worn Basses are killer burn or no burn. The one on my Precision's headstock doesn't bother me. Its very light. If it was over the top I probably wouldn't dig it at all, but the bass sounds/feels so good I might never think about it...

The bass's finish doesn't bother me. I'm pretty sure both were med-jumbo or what ever the hell fender calls it. The RW was a bit lower in output. But they played/sounded the same to me. Which is a great thing. The RW rivals the 70's pbass and CS 59 pbasses I've played. Thats pretty pimptastic for a MIM IMO

I tried the roadworns and i thought they were ok not much better for the price than the 50's classic i owned then for the price. I got a kick out of the shop i was in (Fender dealer) who dropped the prices on the first shipment when they sat in the store. he said "no one wants to pay that much for a beat up looking bass so we dropped the price to almost our cost :eyebrow: I dont dig the relicing its like the opposite of a facelift on an old women.
