Love the roadworn basses.. BUT

I've always found the whole relic-ing idea very odd. All of my basses are new and shiny looking. I gig them hard but clean them regularly & make sure I look after them.

Would you pay 40 percent more for a new car that had dents and scrapes down the side when it came out of the dealership? Thought not.

Wait, you answered before I could answer for myself...Yes, I'd like the junker, if it does what nothing else can do!

It does get 31 mpg on the highway and will hold a 4x10, 2x10, 4-space rack, box of random cables/connectors/mics, spare SWR 350 head, 2 mic stands, clothes hangers with "costume," a music stand, a stool, a briefcase, an upright, me and a lovely lady. It looks like crap but I love it. It has more cargo space than an Audi A3 wagon, a Fit, a Focus wagon, a Matrix, Hyundai Sport Touring wagon, or Jetta wagon. Relics, like Rat Rods, rule!

My REAL Fender 1957 P-Bass has a cigerette burn just where the Rw has it and it wasn't a FILTER cig it was A CAMEL NON FILTER thank you very much. I havent smoked in 35 yrs but there you have it . I DO own a RW P and could care less about the finish details ....didn't even notice the burn mark at first ( till ya'll started bitchin' about it !!!) and couldn't care less. And yes to a previous poster, as soon as I bought it I did "Re- RElic it with my own dents scrapes and scratches and moved that arm rub further south where it ought to be !!!

I am surprised by your evaluation of the Road Worn P-bass. I have played several of them and A/B'd them with 50's classics and my own '71 P-bass. I have got to tell you that there was not a single one that did not impress me.

The sad story about "no one wants to pay that much..." just reaffirms my assertion that people are listening to these with their eyes. Fender has hit a home run with this instruments, IMHO. They are miles better than the H-1, IME, and the 50's classic, as nice as they are, can't touch them for tone and feel. All IMHO, but I gotta say I have played a lot of them, and will some day some own a RW P and a RW Jazz. They both make me think of CS relics.

I did like the feel of the RW neck allot but like i said wasnt overly impressed anymore than say the 50's classic. Hate to say it but i would like the bass more un- reliced its just to fake looking, that would stop me from buying one right there.
