So I got the exl170bt set of 45 60 80 107, and I've gotta say 'why didn't I try them before?'. The flexibility is just amazing! I have them on my stingray at 7/64s on E/ A and 6/64s on D/ G and feel right to me :) with truss rod set at 12.

Love the E string on it, it's like half way between a 105 and 110, deep and easy to play.

Would recommend these to those looking for a light gauge or just want a balanced tension

I've tried both the EXL165 (45-65-85-105) and the EXL170BT (45-60-80-107) and here's what I've found out...
The overall stiff feeling of the 165 comes from the fact the A and D are higher in tension than the G and E. Simply by downsizing the middle two you can reduce the overall stiffness of the set quite a bit.

Thank you. It sounds like the BT set would be perfect for me.

I'm currently using the Rotosound Billy Sheehan set and it is better balanced than any standard set. I have no idea why standard sets like 40-100, 45-100 or 45-105 are so popular. More manufacturers should go for balanced tension. But then again the manufacturers give what the customer is asking for.
