Don has 1 cabinet to complete, then my 1010/6 30 pounds of 4ohm bliss!
Going with Tweed for the classic vintage look.
He's estimating a couple of weeks to completion...

Gotta sell off my heavier stuff and maybe have a 12 built....????

Hey guys. I talked to Don the other day. It had been a while since we talked. Sounds like he is doing well and cranking out some nice cabs! He is really excited about those Faital loaded 215's. I'd like to hear one of those sometime.

He mentioned he has an empty 1212/6 sort of box available that he can finish up with at least some customization on mid driver, etc. if anyone is interested. Probably take 6 weeks off your delivery time. Not sure of the details/desig/size/weight, but any LDS fan looking for a 1212/6 box might be able to 'move up in line'.

If you really know what you want, keep on him about the fine details. If you don't know for sure, he will have good suggestions. I agree. I have 4 LDS cabs and each of them cost half of what a cruddy production cab costs. He also ships them in a super thick box with 1" thick foam all around.

For example, my 410 cost me $80 more than if I were to buy just the 4 drivers he used from US speaker.

I've always wanted to build my own cab, but it's much more economical to have Don do it for me. Also, he does it right.

He also will cater to weird requests. I had a gallon of duratex sitting around and I asked him to not finish two cabs. He was more than happy to do that and also gave me a tutorial on doing duratex correctly.

If Don quoted me three times more than what he did, I still would feel like I got a good deal.

Hey, I'm an LDS Fanboi; but those kind of numbers just aren't accurate, IMO.

Great guy, great builder, certainly cost effective, but not by those kinds of margins. IMO, IME, YMMV, etc.

I didn't mean all 4 cabs combined cost half of one production cab.

I used to play all Ampeg and was never a fan. What I had Don build me cost around half of what a similar Ampeg costs.


Either way, the thing I like most about Don is that he isn't afraid to tell you if something won't work. The customer isn't always right, he's a real strait shooter and I'm very happy with his products.

Alot of you may know or may not know that Don also plays bass, so he's a little partial to us bass players ! I had him build me a 215/tweet cab, complete except for the 15's, which I already had. He asked me what the drivers would be. When I told him JBL K140's, he asked me if I had anymore, and I wound up selling him one ! Great guy.

+1 Don being a player is a great! He called yesterday to get my opinion on the size cabinet I'd like... We both agreed that an even cube 20.5" x 20.5" x 18" would sit well and take up a slightly smaller footprint. I'm really looking forward to my 1010/6 no tweeter in tweed... :hiding:

I had Don build this 15/6/1 cab for me last year and it turned out perfect.I wanmted a 4 Ohm cab so Don used a Faital 15PR400 a 18 Sound Mid and a Eminence 1001 Tweet Driver.I had him cover it with Fender Smooth Brown Tolex and Marshall small weave Cane Grill cloth.It weighs in at 48 pounds also!

and now that this person has listed this cabinet, I'm really thinking that could be for me.

What can people tell me about these "tube style" 15/6's? I've been thread hunting for two days now and I'm not getting very much. This one has a 3015LF and a 18sound 6". Not sure on crossover. Sound like it might compete with my UL410 driven by a PF-500 but I'd love to hear from some Don built 15/6 owners about that first.. Do i really need to ante up to a 500w @ 8ohm head to drive this 8ohm cabinet? I don't think I've ever had to max out a 410 FWIW.

That UL410 is a great cab. Plenty of beef, great highs, and a pleasant mid-dip that's not a big gaping hole.

If you like that, I don't know if you'd like a 15/6, especially one without a horn.

Actually, that mid dip was a big reason why I just flipped it for cash. It's a deal breaker with the already mid-dipped PF-500 head I'm using now. I like a good deal of mids, in fact I loved the 1khz mid boost on the vt bass. The big wide pleasant tone of the UL410 is great, but its not my total ideal tone. I just never seemed to be able to add the mids back in to make me completely smile with the UL410. An older ceramic 410 made me happier; but the weight is a deal breaker for me and I don't really need a 410 anymore. Something smaller would work better.

As far as the horn, I really ran the cab with it off most times. The UL410 was 4ohm though, so it was getting "500 watts" most of its life (LMII or PF500). I happen to think the UL410s1 just killed with the LMII but the head busted on me one day.

So if I didn't dig the mid dip, nor the throw the UL410, how are we looking now?

I also have a rather honky sounding sealed 210 I can add to the cabinet to make a 4 ohm load and add some flavor to the sound; if needed (for the bigger shows on my datebook).

I honestly want one of those 215's with Fatals in it though. The spec sheet on the driver I've seen tossed around on here is crazy great.
