I assume that is the packed weight, which includes the box, etc., etc. That typically adds 10+ pounds to the weight of the cab on the shipping label.

If a cab is more than around 10% more weight than promised, I would not be happy at all (Don is great about 'making it right' on the rare occasion something like that happens). Hopefully, you are just looking at the shipping weight and not the actual weight of the cab, assuming it was promised at 30 pounds. IMO.

Don is usually pretty good at being within about 10% of the promised weight. With 'one off' custom builds, it is a little bit harder to estimate exact weight.

Shipping weight was 57 lbs.

Don mis-quoted the weight of the drivers, due to being able to handle 450 watts each, they weigh in at about 7.6 lbs/each

I'm gonna check it out, my goal was to stay under 40lbs, being that I'm trying to get away from a 53 lb. MESA PH210.

So, the 8 pound differential is a definite improvement, however 50% greater..... I'm confident he'll make it right.

Ah. Well, I guess use it a bit and if it is too heavy, he will take it back and find a lightweight solution for you. I'm sure it will sound great.

I'm actually surprised the Mesa 210 is 53 pounds. I remember those things weighing a ton!

The only Mesa cabs with reasonable (ie, comparable to similarly priced competition) performance/weight ratios are the Scouts. The PH cabs are good-sounding boat anchors IMO.

If the 10's and 6 had been stacked vertical, the weight would have felt like less of a problem. Im guessing the sound didn't turn out like you had planned since there has been no initial review. 15lbs isn't a huge difference when you get down to this weight range.

The new Kappalite 10's weigh about 3+ pounds or so more than the deltalites and other neo Eminence drivers. They happen to have a high thermal power rating, but that is a separate issue. So, that would acound for the extra weight that is outside the typical range of promised weights.

Not an excuse, but an explanation (I assume Don used the deltalight weight as his 'target weight estimate'). That should be a pretty killer sounding cab, although IMO the OP would have been better served with a Kappalite loaded 112 with mid driver, which would have been more likely to hit his weight spec and would put out similar output. IMO there.

The weight I believe I can handle the power rating of the LF 10s is 450 watts each and the Faital 6 is 150 watts.

I just moved, haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Instinct tells me this is going to be what I want. Pictures too follow...

PF500 for now. Last night I was messing with the EQ on that to open up a 410. I had the mid switch at 5, mids up full, bass around 2p and the highs at 4pm. This added what I would call some clairty to that nasty 410. I cannot wait to have a cab that has that sound baked in so I can then use the EQ for more of a mid-low tube sound.

OUT FOR DELIVERY.. :)

That 3015LF is a beast. I've been picking up the woofer and staring at it with contempt ever since the speakers came from Speakerhardware.

Bonus! The good news is, since the tweeters are hi passed, all you need to do is turn it down a bit and you have a 15/6 if you don't dig the extra treble extension. The impact of the tweeter on these cabs is pretty subtle... just some additional upper treble air.

Right that is what I gathered after a 1 hour session with the cabinet. I found that this is completely flat, like plugging into a PA cabinet. I see using the post switch on my DI now is going to be a great option sending the sound guy my tone dialed from the preamp.

What I found worked for me as a tone was:

15db pad on
comp 11
gain 1:30-2
bass 10-11
mid FULL or just below (clipping starts when this knob is at full when the clip light does not light yet)
mid switch on 1 (250hz)
treble 9:30

Mid dial was just past middle
tweeter dial was in the middle

This was just some sweet full and present bass tone that had everything I wanted. I can't wait to hear it in some context sunday; and the PA there being substantial enough to test out the post DI thing I want to try. At 300w, this thing is as loud as my UL410 was at 500w; and the tone is so much more open feeling but of course lacking the low-mid that a 410 has. My EQ setting added that back; so now I have more clarity and all the same sweet tone. That's about all the notes I can think of after 1 hour with it. The only thing I dislike is that I can hear the 70db noise floor of the Ampeg head now, and its not pleasureful. I can also hear the pre-amp clipping and it does not sound sweet like a tube but rather harsh and abrasive. I have to be very careful now to use the compressor and gain structure to keep the preamp clean- and then I seem to add hiss in by cranking the master. While I knew there was some noise with the UL410, this cabinet is so flat that you can really really hear the hiss more so than ever before. More to follow on this though..

Drop your gain a bit and take off that -15 pad. No reason to use it, just bring your gain down to suit. Leave the compressor around 9 or so too, it will still engage but only when you hit it hard.
