I'm having a love/hate relationship with my new cabinet...
I love the quality of sound, craftsmanship, etc.
I hate that I can't carry it in one hand....
Am I fooling myself wanting the love in a lighter package?
I pause and think... maybe go with 2-SL112s...
but I know it will be inferior to the LDS...

Well, you are fooling yourself a bit in thinking you can get a 210 with mid driver for much under what this one is and keep the quality of tone and volume. That is a reasonably large box with pretty heavy duty drivers (even though they are neo).
If the 7-8 pound weight differential is 'deal killer' issue, you might consider an LDS 12/6. Don makes a fabulous spec that is small, with rear ports, and a beautiful faital mid driver, with a Ral Patterson crossover. He also can use lighter wood (hard to come by but a while ago he said he has had better luck living in Seattle than when he was in Detroit). I would guess he could hit 38 pounds or so with that spec.
A single 12 with mid driver will give you a similar tone in a smaller box with a single woofer. My guess is, that will slice 5 pounds from the weight, and be a smaller, easy carry.
Of course, given your cab is reasonably lightweight, I would invest in a good small cart and be happy
Depending on its size (footprint) the Kart-a-bag Concourse III or the larger Super600 would work, and both has curb/stair walkers and bunjee tie downs.I have a wonderful Arnopol Thunderchild TC115 that is 34 pounds and slams, but they are not available any more. I believe he could do a composite fEARFul 12/6 for, so that might be an option (and probably hit 32 pounds or so... not sure). A bit spendy though.
More than you are looking for! Don made this one WWIII proof for me; 3/4" ply, premium bedliner coating, heavy duty Ciare drivers. It weights almost as much as the 2-12 he made for me, both also have 18Sound mid/high drivers in them, so add a crossover, too and L-Pad. The 2-8 weights 51 lbs., is 4Ω and handles 600 watts (thermal) RMS.
I think I remember playing that one. Is that the totally vertical one with the 8's and mid driver in line? If so, that was a VERY nice cab!

Don is so willing... One of his suggestions is if we went for lesser powered 10s, he would be able to use less bracing.... Ahh the confusion... So Ken, you believe a 12/6 would be similar in tonality?

Nice! I remember that one coming through for a 'pre shipping' test. Unique box. Man, those were some heavy duty drivers in that box!
Every cab sounds a bit different, and of course, a 12/6 would be 8ohms instead of 4ohms, which could make a difference if you have a relatively low powered amp. Thos 3012LF drivers pound pretty hard.
The big question is, are you really looking for that 'PA cabinet' type response. I think I saw that you play a P Bass. Often (not always) those who gig a P like myself prefer a bit more mid present, punchy, low end tight cab, and since the P doesn't put a lot of energy into the upper midrange that can beam a bit nearfield, a simple little 3015 box (the non LF driver) or a Faital 15 loaded box can sound VERY good, be quite loud (since they are more efficient than the LF boxes), and REALLY sound good with a P bass is a very lightweight box (no mid driver, no crossover, and a single, powerful driver).
Don's 115 boxes with that 3015 'HO' driver sound fantastic to me with a P, and I think he likes the Faital 15's even better.
Just something to think about.
Don suggested them (Ciare NDC8-3), saying they were heavier than the usual 8" bass driver, but I think most of the weight really comes down to the really solid cabinet. Being as compact as it is the cab is really not too bad to move, only 14" wide so it's easy to grab the side bar handles.
I know he really liked that box! Seems like a lifetime ago! It was always fun back in Detroit to get that call from Don: 'are you doing anything later this morning, I have a box to go out and would like you to 'play/test' the cab'. I miss it!
A 12/6 in 1/2" birch is around 40 pounds depending on the options. Build it in okoume or even italian poplar and you can shed even more weight. I would bet that you could get a 12/6 in the low 30's.
And other drivers are options, but when you take a look you gain more from building with lower weight materials than compromising on drivers/tone.
I think it was in another thread, but sounded like 1/2" BB was standard these days from Don. Was the 3/4" an upgrade or was this built a while ago? Looks like a sweet little cab. Size-wise, would make the weight a bit more manageable. Get a heavy duty backpack, dude!
Definitely spendy if that's all the weight to be saved.
I built one my fEARful 12/6 with Arauco plywood and it weighs just a tad over 37 lbs. Not sure I'd pay much extra to save 5 lbs.
Yeah, for a small cab, it really doesn't make a lot of sense, and Mike and Duke don't even do the Thunderchild112 in composite. It does take 10 pounds or so off the 115, which is pretty cool, and even more off the TC212.
The only reason I recommended it to the OP is that he is VERY sensitive on weight.
I play P, J, J5 w/Nordy noiseless and Yamaha BB1200 w/EMG P/J... Depends on the call and what is needed...

When I was quoted 30 pounds in November, it was ano brainer....
Now, I'm in on the sound and look, just need lower weight.
I'm using a TH500 these days, so 8 ohms doesn't hurt....

Right but the whole LF driver + mid driver puts you in the realm of "PA type cab." Those 10's scale analogously with the rest of the 301xLF line. The 10's by them selves would sound like poo alone, they are not full range drivers. If you like the tonality of your 3010LF based cab, I have no doubts that you will like a cab based on the 3012LF, heck you could probably use the same type of mid driver and preserve the tone almost dead on.
