Low End Jazz Megathread Part 2

Last night had a chance to really "play out" with my LEJ 5/21 Classic TTBurst. So many gigs I do are smaller jazz or church gigs and I don't get to open up the master volume...

LEJ 5/21 Classic TTBurst
DR High Beam 45-125
MESA
Fantom M6
PH 2x10 & 1x12

Ended up on the front pickup passive for the last two sets

It's a beautiful thing!

I have a question: Is the gain substantially lower in the passive mode on the bridge pickup??? Cuz mine is....

In short, yes there will be a slight difference in gain between active and passive. Xotics are the only basses I've heard of that don't have a very big difference.

Question: Do you normally boost the treble and bass eq on your bass? If yes, then it will make the difference in gain between passive and active seem even larger.

Yeah I always boost the bass so that definitely adds to the perception of lost gain when in passive

I boost very little bass and cut treble a bit when active.
In passive I trim the tone down...

Yeah, you're just going to have to get used to it I suppose :-) 18v pre has a lot of gain, so a difference in gain between passive and active is going to be inevitable for the most part. Again, nearly every active bass on the market with an active/passive switch displays this characteristic. I can think of only one brand that is reported to have negligible difference in gain between active and passive.

My new LEJ5! Nitro and 60's pup placement

HOT new bass Diglo!

As far as the passive mode output, my LEJ definitely feels like it puts out less than other basses I've played, but the passive mode also sounds just SO GOOD.

I keep trying to force myself into using the active settings, but I am happy with the passive function.
