Low End Jazz Megathread Part 2

Here is my LEJ Exotic 5 string 24 fret, with a Koa top,Ash body, Maple neck, and Birdseye Maple board. I am going through an Epifani 902 c and an Epifani UL 410 cab. The tone is heavenly. We are a smooth jazz band out of Philly.

Question for you LEJ aficionados.

Are all the LEJs standard with 70s spacing? Or are my eyes deceiving me? It seems like most of them I've seen have bridge pickups closer to the bridge, though the spacing between both bridge and neck seem almost like a 60s spacing, just all closer to the bridge.

Thanks!

Brian

It's 70's bridge position with the neck pickup moved closer to the bridge(not aware of the exact measurement). It's a take off from the traditional jazz sound. Brian can do either 60's or 70's if you want.

Ok, so my eyes didn't deceive. Anyone know if it's quite a difference in the sound? I imagine it still "J-Bassy" enough, but just wondering...

I think they have their own sound. There is a similarity to the jazz bass tone but it isn't a jazz bass sound IMO. I've owned a bunch of them, great basses for sure. If you pick up one used, and you find your self wanting something more traditional, Brian doesn't charge very much at all to route an extra pickup space in the traditional 70's neck position.

I've got a used one coming. I'm just used to the standard 60s spacing sound of course, but maybe I'll love this LEJ. I just hope it's not THAT much of a departure.

Anyone feel guilty when they don't play their LEJ for ages? I've had no inspiration to play all year, and my LEJ has been sitting in it's Mono gigbag in between the sunday morning church services I play at. It's such a waste of a beautiful bass...

+1. But I try and play it all the time!

Maybe you need to find some new music to learn? Just pull out some CD's or the iPod and jam to it. That help me.

Dan, do another promo video. I have seen the one on the website a thousand times. I have tried to play a lick that you did on the video, for ages, but can't seem to get it. Any pictures of the new custom LEJ? What are some of things you have done? I see you endorse Aguilar gear. Do you like the SL 112's?

Funny! I may be so inclined to do another video when I get my new Custom LEJ... It's gonna be sweet!

I LOVE Aguilar Gear... I have a slew of cabs and heads and pedals from them... and the LEJ's sound wonderful thru those amps... but so do my Fenders.

For R&B/Gospel/Funk I love the GS series. For Rock and Jazz, I'm a big fan of the S4x10 and S2x10. I own both in 4 ohms and I run them together with the DB 751... Nice stuff!

For my upright gigs, and smaller rehearsals, I love the TH500 with the GS 1x12. I haven't yet tried the SL cabs, but I know I'd dig them too...

I also have a Roadworn Jazz bass with the 60's Aggie pups. I have a 78 Jazz Bass with the 70s Aggie pups. Each one sounds great and offers a nice taste... I'd like to try something new in my 62 P-Bass, so once they come out with a P-Bass pup, I'm on it.

Just great stuff coming out of that 7th floor in NYC. Can't wait to see what they have in store at NAMM.
