I agree with Diglo. The MM's sounds great on the LEJ's. Someone here in the family need to get endorsed if they continue to raise the prices on those. LOL! Thanks "j-raj" for the shot of me playing at Namm. Man I hope I was playing as well as the pic look! Would you e-mail me a copy of that and others? Diglo that's your baby I am playing, please take care of her or I would have to report you to CPS "Child Protective Services". God Bless you Brian; and all the LEJ Family.

I'm using Sunbeams - .30-.125 on my 6/24. The next one inbound (another 6/24) will wear either Thomastik jazz flats or possibly tapewounds.

Brian sent me a couple of sets of R.Coccos with my LEJ 5er. I'm really impressed by the even response these have and have stuck with them.

My LEJ Hollowbody currently has Sadowsky Blue Nickels on it. I'm a bit unimpressed with these strings generally. I've tried them across 3 or 4 basses and they just seem a bit flat sounding to my ears. I realise the goal from these is warmth but they seem to be unresponsive in the mids. Once I have played these ones out, I'll probably look at some DRs or even GHS Boomers (which I love on Ash/Maple basses).

I also experimented with TI flats but just found them too floppy on the HB because I really like to dig in and didn't want to have to adjust my set up just to accommodate the strings as a trial. I may try the Sadowsky flats at some stage as an alternative.

So far my vote is for DR Hi Beams or Sadowsky Blue Label Steel
45-65-85-105-130

It just seems to come down to I like the feel and the full tonal spectrum to the sound...
God Bless Brian and The LowEnd, because the Sadowsky's weren't XL so I couldn't string anything through the body... Still sounds fantastic!

Can you all open the web address www.lowendbassshop.com or do you have to go to www.thelowend.net ?

I ask because ever since my computer crashed a week ago and I reformatted it I have not been able to go through lowendbassshop to get to my site. I'm not sure if its some setting on my computer with the reformat or what, but we also got att uverse and my wifes computer won't open it. What throws me is my Cel phone will open it.... crazy and I'm confused.... any tech people can explain?

The best string I found is the old Trace Elliot step wound in Stainless. Great feel, punch, growl, clarity and longevity. Too bad they don't make them anymore!

My next fave is D'Addario Prosteels. I use these on my Warriors as well as the LEJ -5. Great tone and long lasting.

Spoke with Chris today...inlaying carbon fibre rods in necks. I caught him just in time...changed my fretboard to maple instead of ebony. Gonna be a funky daphne/sonic blue, so maple's gonna look better than black. My LEJ 24 should look and sound SLAMMING when it's done! :D

Ash/Maple LEJ is probably the finest bass I've owned out of all the basses I've had and do have.... :cool:

I've had played many high end basses and prefer the LEJ 5 :bassist:

Customer service is second to none. :hyper:

Brian's goal is to satisfy your playing needs. :cool:

I'm probably pretty well qualified to answer this :) In the last two years I've owned two Alleva Coppolos and two LEJs. Right now, I own two LEJs and have a third on order. I've moved my ACs to fund LEJ builds.

In my experience, the Allevas are beautiful and extremely well built. They are pretty hyped up here on TB and I think the reputation is reasonably well deserved but it builds some dangerous expectations. If I'm honest, I feel they are less versatile than many of the AC fans let on and they sail extremely close to the advantages and limitations of vintage Fenders. If all you have ever wanted is a boutique Fender type bass, you can't do better than an AC. But I guess you already know this :)

If you want something more than vintage vibes, I think the LEJ is the best modern type jazz bass on the market. This mystique that AC and Sadowsky are the top two world class builders in this field is a bit misleading at times. They are the upper echelon in reputation and thats fair enough. But LEJs in my experience have been better basses to play. I have also found them to be more effective in a gig and recording setting and to be honest, I have found the build quality to be superior to the big guns in this field.

We are talking tiny margins when builders are this good and much of it comes down to taste. But I believe LEJs represent serious value for money. They also stand up as a "one bass" solution in gigs which is a massively underrated requirement for a gigging bassist. I paid a large amount of money for an AC and was satisifed with what I received. I paid less money for a LEJ and was blown away.

Obviously this is just my opinion and experience. I'm sure the fellas on the AC forum will stop talking about vintage colour schemes and tonal differences in different colour rosewoods at some stage and tell you something different :D

There are only two basses in my life that instill pure joy and excitement when played. Have not figured out why I can't stop smiling when I play my LEJ. I have to be careful because it really makes me want to stretch out my music abilities, and some times I get over my head, and have to remind myself to play what I have practiced, and remember that I am being paid to be a pocket, groove player. I have come to a place in my musical career where I am surrounded by nationally know bands, and playing a custom built bass thrills me to no end. So glad that Brian has his own signature headstock,that draws the stuffiest and smuggest of bass players in my circle to ask me about the headstock and pickups. Now I am the smug one with my one-off custom bass. HA!

Thanks, appreciate you(and the other guys who have replied) taking the time to give your opinion.

I posted the same question on the AC thread. Only got a reply from KJung, who seems a decent guy. He isn't that impressed with LEJ, doesn't feel the quality is up there with AC and the tone is too modern for him. The thread then moved on to a discussion on string types, so that's the input from the AC guys. :crying::rollno:
