That tone is VERY representative of the ash/maple HC loaded LEJ's that I have played, with that very modern 'ping' on the note attack, and the somewhat goosed and round low mids (I think Brian actually moves the bridge pickup closer to the bridge than even the 70's J position, which really results in a tight punchy low mid response.. not sure if that's the case on this bass, but it sounds like it)... very punchy and bright and 'active' sounding. Nothing wrong with that! Nice clip and playing by that guy!

The body could actually be alder, since the body wood makes less of a difference in that attack than the FB material, especially in basses with a very forceful preamp.

Brian's customer service is second to none... He called as soon as he opened the box to let me know.... The headstock snapped off and the back is gouged near the top of the contour....
Thank God for insurance... Let the claims begin!!!

We decided to go with the natural headstock and not be concerned about matching....
I'm really missing this bad boy... The only other 5 I have is fretless, nice, but not like this... :bawl:

Patience is a virtue... Good things are worth waiting for.... Time heals all wounds...

I'll be one heck of a guy that's very healed!!! :cool:

ouch! It's terrible to see one of Brian's basses is such a state! What the heck did they do with that poor thing?

:hyper: After Brian bearing with me, and sending me a few basses to try, I have decided on this LEJ 5... Incredible in every way. The craftman ship is just stunning as well as tone, sustain and bottom end. THis is truly a bass I will go to my grave with... But then... I guess I will be "de-composing, instead of composing!!!:bassist:

Who was the carrier? UPS, FedEx, USPS?

I always ship in a hard case, and even then it's come back with a hole in it. Luckily whatever pierced the box and then my G&G case missed the bass.

Thanks to Brian Barrett's second to none customer service and assistance; FedEx has agreed to settle the claim!!!

Agreed! I shall always ship in a case from now on!

Brian is adding MOP blocks in the new neck build and matching the headstock again... I'm excited, pleased and really miss my LEJ 5/21!!!

Great question! :crying:

The clerk that accepted the shipment opened the box to assure it was packed properly due to the insured value. The driver that delivered the box to Brian noted that the box was crushed.

FedEx denied my claim, then claimed they never received my claim, followed by agreeing to settle "the claim" The claims adjuster was interesting... When I asked if she wanted the claim number, she responded, it doesn't matter...

Thanks for your assistance Brian!!!!!! :cool:

Excellent! At least something good is coming out of this.

+1 on Brian. The first A-C I purchased from him literally disappeared in the FedEx system (long story). He was on it like a big dog, and they finally 'found it' (leaning against the wall in a store room somewhere, but not logged in:eek:). All ended up well, if a couple days late.

I'm glad you are getting taken care of by FedEx... that is not an easy thing to deal with.

Some corporations are too big and the foot has no idea what the hand is doing....
As usual, things work out!!!

Patience as I await; the check, the repair the shipping...

I really miss my LEJ 5er!!!
