Low/Mid gain drive that plays nice with Genzler Magellan

OK brain trust, my Sansamp PBDDI is acting up and I’m moving my Genzler Magellan Pre to my gigging board. I need to dirty it up a bit, but I’m space limited to a regular sized pedal. I’d be interested in the Genzler 4OTF or CB, but don’t have the room. I need recommendations (and preferably real world experience) for adding an always/mostly-on SVT-style drive to the Magellan…and stacking with a more modern overdrive (ground and pound). Thx!

The Source Audio Aftershock (or LA Lady or Kingmaker: they’re all the same pedal) might be a good choice here: it can basically do any dirt you want and do it quite well. There are a bajillion user contributed presets on the Neuro app. You can actually test drive them if you want to see if it works for you before you get one.

I’ve looked at that before and it looks and sounds good. I can’t get over my analog bias though…and I’m not one to edit tones on my computer so I think its potential is wasted on me.

I don't have an SVT-Style drive on my board now but I tested a few pedals when I was looking for that sound. I don't have a Magellan preamp but I do use a Magellan 800 amp head.

For my use and basses, I liked the Broughton SV-Pre the best. It was close enough to the SVT sound for me and has top-mounted jacks.

The Catalinbread SFT was pretty good, too, but it was easier to get the sound I wanted from the Broughton.

I now use Darkglass and Spaceman pedals for my dirt tones but I'm not looking for an SVT sound specifically.

I use the Broughton Fliptop for the same thing. It has a cab sim I don't use because it's too scooped, the Gain at 11 am is the right amount of sonic enlivening. I'll have to try the sv because of that variable mid freq!

I use the SV-Pre into a Genzler Magellan 350 and it works very well.

The 350 also takes Sushi Box pedals well. I use the Elementary a lot.

The Wampler Belle is their take on the Nobels ODR-1.

I've built several ODR-1 clones; it's my favorite dirt pedal.

But if you're definitely looking for SVT flavor, the Tech 21 VT bass or Catalinbread SFT should get you VERY close.

I don't know if it's SVT enough, I don't go for that particular sound, but got a Singular Audio Tubedrv to add some dirt to my Magellan rig and it's been fantastic. It's quite versatile, so the SVT drive may well be in there. It's the best pedal I've found that really surfs the edge of dirt/drive, which is where I like to go. It's sounds natural enough that sometimes I've discovered that I've left it on by accident and everything just sounds great.

I've been using a Bearfoot Blueberry for a long time. It can go from grit to grind and everything in between.

I shot out 4-5 (mebbe more) pedals that are SVT-oriented and surprised me by finding the Ampeg Classic my fave.

Can't represent how accurate it is in that I've only played a SVT a few times with little op to tweak it, but that pedal sounds great into a Rumble and a DG to get them much closer.
