Low Noise Fan For SVT-AV

How the SPL of the fan is measured is not the same as how an app measure it. Can't go by your measured numbers.

30-32 CFM sounds about right but it has to be at whatever static pressure the original fan was specified at. The Sunon should work ok.

This type of fan is notoriously noisy due to the blade to hub ratio. That's one drawback to a 115V fan.

Oh, another question @agedhorse: the fan is supposed to intake air from the front or exhaust from the chassis? Now, it’s mounted to exhaust through the front grill?

There is a cut (slot) to give (or take as it is installed now) some to the underside…

**The fellow who sold it to me had it inspected by a tech (yes, I know, not all techs are « techs ») and offers a 90 days warranty… I hope someone didn’t reinstalled the fan backward!

Oh well, always read before asking questions. The SVT-CL disassembly PDF shows the fan exhausting hot air from the amp…

As a sidenote, started it again an hour ago and one of the BIAS led wouldn’t turn green. A shuffle of the 6550’s and a slight readjust of the pots and all is well.

I’ve also swapped all the 12xx7’s with two Japanese 12AU7’s, one Telefunken 12AX7 (line out, second stage I would guess) and two Electrohome (Rogers) 12AX7’s in the preamp tray.

I was doubtful about the correlation between dBA and dB and you confirmed it. Anyway, 60 dB’s for a fan is a lot, unless you’re on a stage gigging (not my case).

You mean the two 12AU7’s drivers and the sole 12AX7 (line out and second stage?)? Done.

BTW, the two Rogers in the pre section made a substantial difference for the noise floor (white noise, hiss).

Looking to buy a spare set of 6550´s but the prices are totally insane here in America! Except the Groove Tubes from a couple of places in the States. I guess they are from Shuguang and as much as I’m satisfied with all my Shuguang products, I’m not sure their 6550´s are as tough as the Sovtek’s. What do you think about them?

The sextet of Sovtek’s in the amp still tests good (for what it’s worth on a Precision Apparatus old calibrated tube tester, real test is always in equipment).

With the actual rise in price, I like to secure tube spares as much as I can…
