Lyrics that speak to you.

Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon

(I tear up every time I hear this song.)

Time

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

I tear up as well. It hits home so hard--especially as you get older.

I battle PTSD and agoraphobia, anxiety, depression.

I am always looking for new music to play. Fired up a band I never heard of, called "The Midnight" and randomly picked the song "Synthetic". The chorus brought tears. Pretty rare.

/Chorus/

I'm still alive but I can't feel
I got stuff inside but it's not real
They say I'm fine but I feel synthetic
Nothing human left in me
I'm just a machine full of moving parts
I got emptiness where I used to have a heart
I'm still breathing but I'm synthetic
Nothing human left in me
Nothing human about me

This is so dedicated to my current wife.
The entire set of lyrics remind me of her, but the chorus especially so…

Oh I'd give my life so lightly
For my gentle lady
Give it freely and completely
To my lady…

"I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had"

Oh look, I've already been in this thread, seven years ago! Well... in addition to ^^^that couplet, the single succinct lines that I always cite whenever this question comes up are:

- "Sunshine bores the daylights out of me" (The Rolling Stones, from "Rocks Off")

- "I'm a back door man; the men don't know, but the little girls understand" (The Doors, from "Backdoor Man")

- "Didn't it feel good just sitting there talking, or lying there not talking?" (Joni Mitchell, from "Free Man In Paris")

- "I wish life could be Swedish magazines" (Iggy Pop, from "5 Foot 1")

- "Well I did not think the girls could be so cruel, and I'm never going back to my old school" (Steely Dan, from "My Old School")

- "Your god hates me, he can't feel my flesh, he leaves me panting like a dog at the edge of your bed" (Thalia Zadek, from "1926")
