Double Bass M line Wizzy vs. VL 208

The bridge situation isn't a problem really yet. It's been in little bit bend in for about a year and a half and has never really budged, but I figured if I was looking into a new pickup, then I might just as well get a new bridge with the combo deal.

I think I'm going to go try out an AI combo around here (in nashville). I saw a guy use one at a bar gig the other day with my old pickup (barcus berry with preamp). It was the best sound I've ever heard. I don't intend on playing much larger gigs than bar gigs and rehersals, and even if I do, what do you guys think about the extension cabinet situation?

Well a tilting or leaning bridge can sometimes be fixed in the manner I outlined. But a bent or warped bridge would make me real nervous, like it was shaped too thin.

But yes, if I ever replace the bridge on my bass, I will definitely try the Full Circle p/u at that time too.

I have the AI extension cab, and it never really solved my needs for a more direct or up front sound than the Contra provides by itself. It is nice for setting the drummer up with their own little bass monitor in certain settings when we are really spread far apart on stage, but for me that's about it. However, if you decide to get a Contra / Coda and absolutely love it, their ext. cab will give you more of the same.

I think from what I have read here most people tend to have better luck pairing a traditional front firing cab with the Contra / Coda for situations that just need mo' bass. There, your possibilities are wondrous and varied. TB is of course one of the best places IMO to sort through all your choices. I'd start a new thread if you want to take that further, or start checking out some of the speaker cab threads here if you haven't already.

How 'bout say an M-line Wizzy? (Segue ... back on topic.)

Yes, Realist ->AI Focus 2R III -> Wizzy M-line 12. I do love it. FWIW-the Wizzy has given my sound more midrange clarity. Not a bucket o' mud. Just clean, girthy lows. Best DB rig I've ever played thru. I like it for BG and EUB as well (and so does my back)...sometimes w/ 2 Wizzy M's.

There's no right or wrong answer here, just what you like and what works for you. Frankly some of the best players I know use gear that doesn't get discussed around here, but it works for them.

Actually I don't think anyone has the Wizzy 10 yet. You can preorder one though, w/ expected delivery sometime in Q1 '07. I think Tom Bowlus and Mike Dimin and a few other in the EA inner circle are the only folks who have actually played through one. And maybe some folks who were at NAMM in Anaheim earlier this month.
