oh Master Fader - What am I doing wrong ?

seems easy to setup a show however I don't seem to be able to save it. Is there a save function I'm missing ? Thanks!

press the "shows" button top right, then "store snapshot".

once done, hit that snapshot button (now showing a number) again to name it whatever you want.

also, hit the little gear icon, then the "help" button, and you've got the entire 200+ page reference guide right there.

Hmmm. I just tried that and I still lost everything. This is kinda strange. Do you need the mixer hardware to save ? I am working 'untethered'...

huh? "store snapshot" should do just that, then choosing it and hitting "recall" should bring it right back. you don't need the mixer to do that.

now, are you looking at whether that new control panel thing on the side stays or not? 'cause that doesn't get saved.

Classic RTFM error. I had all the channels, Rev & Delay, LR and Aux mixes protected... Doh! Smacks forehead... ;-)

Anyone know if there is a hardware reset or a reset to factory default ? Guess I figured out why this one was in scatch 'n dent - mixer looks new but no audio out. No phones, auxes or mains... I do get the channel LED flickering green to red so the in's are getting something.

I'm guessing that something never makes to to the iPad though as i don't get any indication of level on the channel or Master.

On insertion, the iPad (3) went to the charging state and the tools indicator went green and I got the ' connected' indicator. When I look at the devices tab, under devices, wired read '<getting device name>'. I never saw that change. Not sure if that meant that Master Fader was looking for the interface or my iPad though...

I suppose I should delete Master Fader and reinstall just to be sure it isn't a setting I jammed in there somehow. Mackie opens up in an hour and I'll give them a shout... I topped out the guy from AMS in about 5 min. No surprise there...

Talked to Mackie. They recommend a manually triggering a firmware reset.
Not sure of it has been covered above or not so here goes...

Power off
Insert iPad
Find small recessed button between power and the ethernetconnector.
Depress that switch using a pen or toothpick or some small pointy object
Power on while holding down thr swith for a few seconds or until the update firmware prompt shows up
Then follow the prompt to update the firmware.


That may be in the doc somewhere. I didn't find it ...

And the prognosis is...DOA. Nice QC on the party of AMS. Be a cold day you know's where before I try the dent'n scratch with them again... I spent a long time on the phone with Mackie. Nice techs but they did seem to feel that what I encountered was not a rare event. Gives me pause on trying this tack again,

I ran into that just once when I first got the mixer. It happened when going from wifi to docked. Stopping and restarting the Master Fader app didn't help, but as I recall, rebooting the iPad did. I don't remember if I power-cycled the mixer as well, but that's quick so perhaps I did.

you mean "scratch n dent" tack, right, not the 1608? Lots of pretty well satisfied owners of the Mackie.

Not using AMS this time. Still waiting for them to email a UPS return label. Called Wed, Thurs and Friday. Each rep said he'd get it done. I am so not feeling the love for those guys at the moment. Sad as they used to be one of my go to vendors. Ah well, their loss...

+1, i feel like my 1608 setup is weirdly learning to get better over time, which is faintly creepy for an inanimate object!

just last night, for the first time my ipad (which always starts the night at 100% charge to avoid charging noise through my cablejive 2-foot extender cable) ended the night still at 100% charge, rather than being slightly drained to the low 90s like it usually is.

A functional Mackie DL806 is now in my possession. Came in Fedex this am so I hit the house at lunch for a quick trial. Sweet! I'm pretty stoked to have it for this weekend.

AMS that still not come through with a return label. 2 weeks ago today. Truly lame...

excellent!

set your auxes "pre-DSP" to keep the compressor out of the monitors, set all your output EQs to parametric instead of graphic (if any EQ scheme was made for a touch screen it's parametric) and off you go.

(i've read that the secret to good FX sound out of the DL is to actually use the presets, but i haven't tried that.)

The presets seem overly compressed when I demo through headphones. I spent a little time with my Taylor acoustic guitar going direct and an OM-6, AKG 240's. (I've been an HD280 or 7506 guy for a long time. ... working with some folks who are die hard AKG 240 fans so I'm trying it out...). So could be the phone, phone in general, the phone output... Hard to say. Either way, the compressor is easy to knock down so no big deal. I will be setting presets up based on the players in my band for sure though. It's just too easy that way...

Guess I need to order a case for it...

And AMS finally snail mailed the UPS return tag. So closure is close at hand and all is well!

Well got through the first job with relatively little hassle. Had some baubles with the iPad going remote. I think those have been shaken out though. Now for the tough question...

Can you put a delay on an Aux ? I don't mean like ping pong or tape delay but some number of milliseconds that will allow you (or me) to setup time delayed stacks out front ...

oh, i meant the FX presets, which you access by hitting the "presets" button while on the delay or verb page. (again, haven't tried them myself yet.)

yeah, as of the latest update you get delayed outs, complete with a "temperature" slider.

Not sure what the market is like in Tidewater but around here the whole idea of time aligning for speech work is a novelty. I for one am not enlightening my competitors...

So I want to use the 1608 on stage for all of our IEMs, but need to feed each signal to the house mixer too. Eight mics/instruments, plus all the drum mics.

Any ideas?

Maybe do everything but the drums in passthrough? Maybe even add an ambient mic to the mix for IEMs only, which would pick up drums too?

Have not used IEMs yet, but am desperate to try after the last experience on stage, where I could not hear even myself. Totally swamped by the stage rumble from 8 subs.
