I keep getting one and then deciding that I'm a 4 string player. Then I get the gas again. I got this yesterday and I must say I like it. The B is pretty good and the tonality range is out there.

My brother, I know how you feel. I've done this for years....so it's about time for me to get another fiver. Love the bass tho.
Keep one of each around that way when you need one or the other it will be there without having to strain the bank again.

Nice bass, but I'd say if you can't decide you're a 4 or 5 string player then you should probably stick with the 4.
If you really do need a 5 then put your 4 string basses away for a year while you exclusively play the 5. That will bed in the new bass so you're not feeling uncomfortable or unsettling your muscle memory by switching back and forth between 4's and 5's.

Well if you do change your mind, you can always trade the bass one for one for a similar 4 string Fender bass.

I'm with Chris b, if you want to bond with the 5er you need to play only the 5er for minimum of six months. Also you need to be playing music that makes sense to utilize that B string.
I've got 4 four strings, including a '66J I haven't played in 10 or more years and a CS 59 NOS P I haven't picked up in over a year. I don't understand why anyone needs a 4, no use for them in my universe. And to answer the obvious question, my son gets the '66J, and my grandaughter wants the shell pink CS P. My half-brother gets the Telecaster bass wearing my departed father's Harley buckle. The JPJ I'm keeping because it is the only project bass I've ever put together and I really should play it some time, but haven't touched it in a couple of years. ..
I'm in the same boat - every 2 years or so I make decision to switch to 5. Buy one (best thing to be able to feed GAS), play one gig and then decide tone wise and ergonomically speaking it is not me. I guess there are those who like blondes and those who prefer brunettes. Can't go wrong with either.

Gorgeous bass but I would argue that no one ever "needs" a 5 string, in any circumstance, under any condition. A 4 string is always enough. Just my 2 cents, no offense intended, to each their own, and long live the bass.
