Is there any notable difference between ceramic, alnico, neodymium, and samarium-colbat magnets in pickups

Yes sir. Ceramic has alot of treble and punch while alinco is more laid back. However you've got to try them all out and see which one you like

unless the pickups are designed differently, in which case it could be just the opposite. i submit that an alnico music man stingray pickup is way more treble-y and "punchy" than a ceramic fender mexican P-bass pickup.

magnets totally affect the sound, but so does every other aspect of the pickup design.

fender has used them in recent offerings;

the pickups sound OK, which is not really a reflection on S-C as a magnet material.

it's kinda like asking, "what does 42 gauge coil wire sound like?"
