I like mahogany too but I heard it isn't praised very much where it's indigenous.
So you'd expect prices to be lower but the man knows we want it! Errrr!!!
It is very heavy though.

No, it's an Acacia. "African mahogany" is also not a mahogany.

Koa is also found outside of Hawaii.

The link provided earlier shows this; Khaya anthotheca, Khaya grandifoliola, Khaya ivorensis, Khaya senegalensis, OTHER NAMES, African Mahogany, Khaya. Mine sure looks like mahogany.

My first concert, 11 yrs old, hanging with my 17 yr old cousin, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush opened up for Aerosmith, Toys In The Attic Tour. I had heard plenty of Aerosmith, owned all of their albums up to that point, but had never heard this guy before. Spent weeks thereafter listening to his music over and over again and why I got into blues. Him, ZZ Top, and Hendrix introduced me to blues in a rock n roll sort of way I guess. What a great musician.

I think my Guild JSBII (?) was mahogany, relatively light and mighty fine machine.

Even kit basses can come in mahogany. Without the pickups it wouldn't sound as good though

Playing for 4 plus decades, i have owned everything from a pudella to a rickenbacker, fender, gibson, epiphone, ibanaz, squier, etc. They all had something i really liked. I have come to the realization that nothing sounds as good as mahogany, its just has this amazing deep rich tone and wonderful feel.

Almost all if not all JSBs were mahogany. Body and neck. Mahog necks are mellower than maple but with a nice punch.
