Mahogany rules!

Playing for 4 plus decades, i have owned everything from a pudella to a rickenbacker, fender, gibson, epiphone, ibanaz, squier, etc. They all had something i really liked. I have come to the realization that nothing sounds as good as mahogany, its just has this amazing deep rich tone and wonderful feel.

My main Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro Bass also got a Mahogany body and sounds awesome, though it's doubtful how much influence the body wood really has on that, since it is coated with an insane thick poly finish (which I discovered several years back when I accidentally dropped it on the concrete sidewalk and a big chunk of the finish cracked off), I think close to 2mm (~0.079") thick.

Also until I swapped out the crappy stock pickups it only sounded pretty decent.

And then again my Ash body Aria Pro II Laser Electric Classic bass sounds awesome too.

And so did my semi hollow Masonite and Poplar body Jerry Jones Longhorn bass.

Koa is a mahogany. Only grows in Hawaii. (I love mahogany! Especially Koa and Honduran.)

After years of playing mostly alder and ash bodied basses, I went with mahogany on my latest MTD 535. I love love love it! Not only the look, but the sound: really defined and punchy.

I love the look of mahogany but have only owned one "true mahogany" bass. I currently own one with a utile body and another with an okoume body (two woods sometimes referred to as "mahogany" even though they are not in the Swietenia genus).
