Not only that the gigantic flatwounds he plays on. I had a set of Steve Harris Strings on my bass for a couple years and I was starting to think I didn't like my bass. Put a set of Chromes on and realized that it was just those SH strings. You have to have extremely strong hands to play like Steve does with those strings.
