Making your own bass bridge?

Those are generic ABM style saddles... you can buy them a few different places, like guitarpartsdepot.com - Invalid Link Removed

It intonates by sliding forward or backward, and it is held in place by a set screw. You can also adjust string height (the saddles move vertically in the metal bridge piece).

Seriously, no. Don't try this, even if you're tempted. It's very very dangerous -- even using a metal-cutting bit in a milling machine at the proper speed can be dangerous if the part isn't fixtured correctly. Doing any metal-removing operations using hand-held tools is just asking for disaster, and doing it with tools meant for wood (high RPM as pilotjones mentions) is out of the question.

On the other hand, if you do have the correct tools, brass is one of the easiest metals to machine, IMO. It produces nice small chips and is hard enough that it doesn't gum up tools but not so hard that it's difficult to cut.

lol. i have all the fancy metal working machines to make some pretty sweet bridges (if i knew how) in my schools metal/welding shop. unfortinatly i took the begginers class, sucked beond all repair aat weilding, arc wielding freaked be out (i jumped whenever it sparked), and i had to drop the class

+1 on all accounts. a router spins way too fast for cutting metal and wouldn't be safe.

Brass is pretty nice stuff to work too, doesn't dull tools quickly like some steel, doesn't stick to your tools like copper or aluminum often will.
