Manufacturers have given up

I've read arguments that the world is flat and we never sent men to the moon. (This is not intended to start a further discussion on those points. Those with different beliefs, take it outside please. Thank you.) For me, reading such things is not automatic confirmation of fact.

The confusion is there because, as has been pointed out in this thread to a large degree, marketing writes brochures and customers read them believing it all at face value. Then those same people having read and believed the sales pitch go on to parrot what they read without undertaking any further self discovery of the facts.

Again I have no particular argument with you saying what you said.
My complaint is about those who don't go beyond what is printed in a slick brochure or a nice looking website.

Are you saying that a bass really can't play like buttah?
 
The only major differences in amp construction that I really understand are tube vs solid state, analog vs digital, and pcb vs point-to-point.... beyond that I just want to blissfully ignorantly hear how it sounds.

Reminds me of a job I had in an electronics store, we sold consumer electronics at Bush IAH for people bored in the terminal or dreading their transoceanic flight. Out of all the over-ear headphones with noise cancelling out there, we found the Creative Aurvana X-Fi's to be the best out there; Maxim article about testing even showed they beat out the top Bose QC model at that time, Sony, and Sennheiser's equivalent product. Needless to say, we (my boss and I) loved the headphones and thought they were awesome.

So when the Creative rep. visited our store we were pretty stoked. She then asked to speak to the store supervisor and whichever employee he felt was the most knowledgeable about headphones...my boss brought me over. The rep then told us about the Crystallizer feature on the headphones, where it "Decompresses the audio from your MP3s in real time when turned on". Now, I'm no EE, but I'm fairly sure digital file compression isn't something you can really reverse over an analog 3.5mm audio cable...much less in real time. After doing some admittedly amateur testing, my boss and I found it was really more of a re-EQ of the audio signal that gave it some sheen. Hoping for some legit product training, we got an embarrassingly horrible marketing pitch that shriveled and died under any scrutiny. For in-ears, we touted the Shures as the best and we loved the rep we had for them.


Tl;dr = Marketing reps don't know what they are talking about in many cases.
 
It's a novice mistake to assume that because a bass has a battery that it has active pickups.

If musicians were ham radio operators this might matter, but they aren't and it doesn't. I don't know any musician unless they are also an amp designer, EE, or radio junkie that can actually define class A, A/B, D, H, B or any of the other many configurations an output section can take. So call it digital. it's wrong but most people here refer to all micro SMPS style amps as "class D" even though half of them aren't. It's wrong but nobody even cares enough to understand what output class is or means in the first place.

My MB500 amps sound fantastic and that's all any musician cares or needs to know about.

Joe Walsh from the Eagles is one and so are some others. Bob Heil is an avid Amateur radio operator and engineers both pro audio and radio products.

Your correct, Class D isn't digital. It just describes the class of the amplifier. Class D is based off pulse width modulation which I can describe if need be.

Class D isn't used for Amatuer radio but class A, A/B and C are.

The Wikipedia description of PWM is this, which may account for the use of the term “digital” when talking about Class D:

Pulse-width modulation (PWM), or pulse-duration modulation (PDM), is a way of describing a digital (binary/discrete) signal that was created through a modulationtechnique, which involves encoding a message into a pulsing signal.”
 
The nice thing about Class C (cloudbased) amps, is you can play the songs at home, when you have time, then just retrieve them at the gig - no clams! :)

My understanding is that once WI-FI 6 is implemented, packet speeds will finally be fast enough for near real-time transmission to and from the centrally located amplification facilities that Amazon and IBM have been developing over the last few years.

The best part is you could play gigs in Peoria, Brussels and Perth, all at the same time.
