I have only owned rosewood boards. I hear that maple, because it is a harder wood, is brighter, and a must have if you are a frequent "slapper".
I love maple most with ebony coming in second, both are hard woods and both can get dark. Rosewood or Pau Ferro can get plenty bright too.
Seems that way to me too. Also, considering that I am almost as old as dirt, it is easier to see the maple fingerboard when the lighting goes down.
Amen!!Maple fingerboards to me just SCREAMS 70’s FUNK. And I love to FUNK!
The people in the G&L Club thread might be tired of seeing pictures of this one, so I’ll take advantage of an opportunity to post pics of my L-2500 in a different thread.
It’s a cherry burst with matching headstock, a markerless maple fretboard, and a factory installed K-mod (the series/parallel switch is replaced by a three way selector switch for series / single-coil / parallel mode). It’s my only maple fretboard, and I think it might be the only maple I’ve ever owned. Not for any particular reason, it just worked out that way.
It’s not my #1, but if I was in a band that played a higher percentage of rock than my current one does, it could be my #1. It’s spectacular in a rock context.

Not necessarily, Wooten does fine without it. I'd think strings, eq, and technique matter the most. Fretboard wood difference is going to to be inaudible for the majority of listeners. I don't think I've EVER watched a video and thought, "man, that would sound even better on a xxx fretboard".I have only owned rosewood boards.
