Maple fingerboard opinion poll

I have two Fender Vintera P's, one MTD LK4, an Ibby ATK300, a Squier Paranormal Jazz, a Squier CV 50's P, a Squier CV 70's P, all with maple FB's. They're all pretty great. I did swap the maple FB neck on my SUB 4, but that bass was just too bright with that neck. Rosewood board tamed it nicely.

I was expecting to see cracks, or swirled grain or something. Those brown streaks happen naturally. The finish may darken over the years, especially if you leave it out in the open, and be less noticeable.

I would not put much faith in these people's opinions. That fretboard looks nice.

My main bass is a P with a maple neck. I couldn't live without it.

I'm getting old and that light colored neck is so much easier to see in crappy lighting. I wouldn't buy a rosewood fingerboard for anything these days.

Also, I like how they look.

I used to be a fan of thick rosewood slab type of fingerboard until a bass player brought his custom shop reissue Fender 57 p bass to our blues bar……..……with a maple fingerboard.
That bass was more than perfect in every way, a monster of power and bass emphasize when played hard and velvet/sweet sounding when played softly.
My first thought of "rosewood sounds better" stopped right there.
And now, I appreciate both rosewood and maple sound wise and look wise.
Yours is fine to me so if it sounds good, go out and play it !
Straightness and stability are much more important than wood species and color IMO.

Oh, sure. All of those folks well-qualified to cast judgement on a fingerboard.

You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. Ask them to see their bass with a maple fingerboard.

That usually shuts up any boneheaded observers pretty quickly.

It is really an aestetic question, because I had sone very negative comment about it, just wanted to test the water.

You like the bass; keep it. When you're playing the bass you are not going to be able to see the fingerboard anyway. Those who don't like it can avert their eyes. It isn't their call to make, anyway.

I look at a picture like this, and I just gravitate to the rosewood. Is there a tonal difference? Not enough for me to notice or care.

I own a precision with a maple neck similar to yours. I've played it since 73 and never have noticed any difference in playing.

I have a bass with Maple fingerboard, there is some wood...I do not even know if it is grain, but some people who have seen this bass said to me that if they had a bass like this one, they would not keep it. I am happy with it as I find that it is her "charm" and give her character, but as of simple curiosity, I would like to know how you would feel about a fingerboard looking like this:

No worry, at least bb434m are one of the great value bass that has stable solid 3 pcs neck.
