When talking about the visual appeal I'd say they look great with a good body color combination, I always though they looked good paired with black or candy apple red bodies. Many say they add a more bright edge on the sound/tone too. I have only owned a few over the years but mainly have been a Maplewood guy for the most part.

I have a couple! Love maple boards. The Stingray 5 actually isn't mine anymore. Traded for another jazz a couple months ago. Figured it was still worth a share since I played a solid 600ish gigs on it.

My Lakland Pbass has a maple fretboard, which is very pretty, but I'd choose rosewood every time. I just love darker colors.
