I love his playing , and have a ton of his live stuff including sound boards from bass desires , and just about all of his live out put with Bill Evans

Double Bass Marc Johnson?

Yikes, don't know how I missed this thread (although, it doesn't seem to come up when I searched?) I transcribed a mess of Marc stuff for my dissertation "The Evolution of the Improvisational Vocabulary of Marc Johnson" including the two tunes referenced above. I did them entirely (bassline and solo), but I'll just post the solos.
In my opinion one of the very best bassists there ever was. Talk about “heavy” playing and thinking, the stuff from Abercrombie’s November, his Bass Desires album with Erskine, Scofield, & Bill Frisell, jesus that’s some heavy killer playing, and a very difficult album to find with a great guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel called Magic Labrynth……..EPIC playing! He’s not a big person so yes, his action is lower and he does play with an amp and pickup regularly but that doesn’t bother me, in fact it makes for an amazing sound on album recordings I feel.
