Marcus Miller is on SWR now !

I just watched a Marcus Miller concert and noticed that he is using SWR amps and cabs now : Invalid Link Removed

IMO, the EBS tone is much better...

Has anyone seen him live recently using SWR amps and cabs?

Miller was using SWR before EBS made bass rigs. But hey, everyone has to pay their rent

Marcus can his tone using tone using a Silvertone bass. There is no such thing as gear ( amp, preamp) oriented Miller sound, except for the bass itself. He had the Miller sound 15 years ago with completely different set-ups even the bass he played.( sadowsky)


Note: i just whatched the video and i think putting your bass rig in front of the drum on a big stage like that is a bit cheesy...

I agree 100%. I played a 2x10 SWR combo a few months ago and it rocked. It was very very nice and I wouldn't mind owning one like it.

My two penneth:

1 - SWR great sounding gear. Used a 400 and Goliath for years, wicked for anything.

2 - I bought a MM Jazz as I plugged into an Ampeg with flat EQ and it had that sound. It has that sound DI'd into my desk in the studio or if I put through SWR, Trace, Line6 so don't worry just go for it.

Also, you aren't hearing either EBS or SWR tone... you are hearing Marcus direct to the board through his Avalon

Unfortunately, the last two times I've seen Marcus I never got to hear the PA or "board" because I was sitting 10-20 feet from him and his EBS speakers - nice. He is a very nice guy off stage too.

The live show was definitely better than the DVD!!

I've used SWR preamp/power with EBS speakers for a while now - go figure.

The SWR stuff is probably just the backline gear (for stage sound/monitoring) that the venue provided. yep, audio on the clip is probably DI.

Man, you wish you could walk onto "any-stage-america" and have a "backline" sound so sweet!

As with most of these "look what he's playing through threads" what you are hearing on the video or through the FOH at the venue is the DI, not the stage amp.

You need to see/hear/feel him live, my friend.

His sound then and now is still predominantly a mid 70's Ash Fender Jazz four string.

Mabe his drummer likes it that way? Every Marcus Miller video i have seen the bass rig has been right in front of the drummer. Or mabe he is sending a message to EBS? Could even be a "How to get YOUR sound" lession? I dont know, but I know he sounds as good as ever

That's a very different thing. I saw that tour. Since it was a 'Headhunters' tour, Marcus (being the pro that he is) was trying to stay true to the vibe of that band, and the classic recordings.

Since I was early for the MM workshop, I was checking the stage, surprise, surprise SWR...
when I asked the owner of the shop, he just said they had to take down the EBS stack and take out this one (550X/210/410).
Still sounded like MM though...

Cool. I have an SWR 2x10 as well. I love that thing. Perfect size for rehearsals or small gigs. I add a 1x15 or 4x10 for bigger venues.

I've been using SWR cabs for years and never had any complaints. Just make sure you turn the tweeters/horns all the way off...
