Marcus Miller is on SWR now !

I just watched a Marcus Miller concert and noticed that he is using SWR amps and cabs now : Invalid Link Removed

IMO, the EBS tone is much better...

Has anyone seen him live recently using SWR amps and cabs?

What you are hearing on that video is DI signal. I think Marcus would sound great playing through anything though.

As with most of these "look what he's playing through threads" what you are hearing on the video or through the FOH at the venue is the DI, not the stage amp.

The SWR stuff is probably just the backline gear (for stage sound/monitoring) that the venue provided. yep, audio on the clip is probably DI.

In my audio experience (I work as a recording & live sound engineer when not gigging as a bassist) the XLR output from an SWR SM-400 head is one of THE BEST sounding DI's out there...so it's entirely possible that some of the sound the OP appreciates is a result of Marcus' SWR head.

Then again, the soundman may just have parked a Countryman, a BSS, a Radial, or whatever the DI-du-jour is in front of Marcus' rig.

And fwiw, Marcus was endorsing SWR way back in the late 1980's.

Mr Miller could make ANY rig sound good IMHO Lots of people use SWR to get that Marcus like sound.

I think the action figure he has on his rig makes the biggest difference to his tone than anything else

I like SWR! Not as much as EBS, by a long shot, but it's good gear!
