Marcus Miller on his Sterling

It's a lined fretless. I have seen other pictures of it on recent Marcus threads, and he talks about the bass in last month's issue of Bass Player.
I saw him here in Houston last Sunday and it was great! The Sterling was indeed a lined fretless. The drummer was Charles Haynes.

Are there any artists who actually play what they endorse? and I'm talking a off the shelf version the public can buy? I love Marcus but does he still even have an endorsement with Fender? those Sire basses look really nice and I know they were designed to be a good quality entry level bass and he's anything but entry level but man it would be cool to just have one on stage maybe? and If I'm a kid just starting out and I want to be like Marcus will I invest in a Sire that he rarely plays if ever live or will I grab a used Fender Marcus Miller? sorry for the rant but I remember when the Sire basses first came out he was gushing about how great they were.
If you remember the video, MM said the basses were designed to give beginners a great entry level bass. He did not say he would regularly play them himself. MM said that the MM Sig basses from Fender he played were off the shelf basses.
He has the piezo pickup in that Sterling. Its a sweet bass. I had one I bought cheap, but the neck is too thin for my taste.

Yeah I looked at the video before I made the comments I guess what set me off was the fact that he's playing two basses that I don't think he has endorsement deals with and the one he does have one with he's hardly seen with? I guess the former small business owner came out in me and I ranted sorry but that.

I think he plays whatever he wants, especially now. He does play the Sire though.
His deal with Fender might have been very restrictive regarding what he could play live. Sire, as a startup, probably gave him a much looser deal.

iPads are great entry level cameras, like an SX. Just upgrade the lens, housing, LSR, and you've got an American-made quality camera for cheap!

Maybe if he was in a corporate band music video with electronically generated audience hands up and synchronized dance moves he'd be more into it. Nah. What you see in this still frame of Marcus is THE REAL DEAL, imho.

I'm not a big fan of his music, which isn't to say I don't like it, but I admire his playing, his enthusiasm for musicianship, his REALness above all else.

Here my pics from his Chicago show: He started the song on bass clarinet and then switched to fretless.
It is a bit off Grand Avenue in the neighborhood of the Fox Theater and Powell Symphony Hall.
Those are great pictures. It is more obvious in your shot that the Sterling is a lined fretless.
