Anyone tried this with a mic, like say, the DPA 4099?

I have tried it with a shure beta 56 but it was just too much hassle and for louder situations a pickup worked better for me. It seemed to pick up too much of the other stuff around it. I would be interested to know more about using the dpa with any amp. It seems like a high quality mic. And being able to mount it on the instrument is a big plus.

I'm auditioning a DPA DeVote right now. It's a great sounding mic but I'm getting feedback in the upper frequencies and I noticed that the AMT Mic starts rolling off those frequencies at about 5k hz whereas the DPA actually has a spike at 10k. We'll find out if theory meets practice next week.

Can anyone compare this with the GK MB150 in terms of usable volume? I know they are about the same wattage but my GK starts to get pretty wonky when I push the volume.

I owned the gk mb 150 a couple of amps ago and i feel the ac 121 is way beyond the gk in terms of sound and a little more usable volume. When I had the gk I owned a swr strawberry blond also and favored the swr in terms of sound but the gk could get a little louder and it was smaller. I have used the ac 121 on all sorts of jazz gigs and it works great for me.

It won't really cut it with a big band will it?

It does for me but it really just depends on the drummer. If it's a good jazz drummer with a wide dynamic range then it's fine. If it's a basher then you probably need something bigger. I occasionally play with a big band for some private party type gigs and it has done fine, but I also found that when I played outside I wished for a little more volume.

Thanks for all that feedback, I'm just about to order the ah 250 head to couple with my markbass new york 121. Very few reviews online that are of any use. I have an AMT mic which I want to try through it and mixing with either a realist PU or Wilson which is on my other bass. At the moment I'm just using an EDEN head through the Mark cab, which sounds great I have to say but I'm hoping the AH250 will be even better
