Mark Bass cabs for LM2 advice please

Hey guys, I have searched and read all threads I could find I promise!

I ended up purchasing a Little Mark II the other week and am so stoked with it and am seriously considering a Mark Bass Cab.

I kind of like the look of the 106CL but am not adverse to the bee bum colored speaker cabs.

Just wondering if anyone has any news/opinions of mark bass cabs with their LM2 they want to share.

I play in a loudish rock band (3 piece) but mostly we have PA support so I guess it's just more for my onstage ego/sound. There are occasions in clubs where it will need to be the whole bass sound though.

Also with the 6 X 10 Mark Bass cabs being 6 OHMS I presume they still sound very big with a LM2?

Am also liking the 104 CL/HFs so any reports on those would be appreciated too.

I am still using my old Crate 200 watt 1810 Cab and the LM2 sounds so good through that so am looking forward to hearing it through a nicer and much lighter box.

I've actually heard VERY good things about the Markbass vintage sealed cabs like the 610. Similar to other brands, the MB cab line has hits and misses. I have not had the pleasure of trying the sealed 610, but some of my peers with very good ears (I'm a poet:D) say the 610 is the 'best of the bunch' for a tight, punchy, rock oriented tone.

That being said, +1 in that the LMII with the Bergantino AE410 sounds VERY good... tight, punchy and growly.

Ah, another thread where everyone can bash Markbass cabs! Sorry, not going to do it. Markbass cabs are the Fender Precision of the cab world. They sound absolutely wonderful on a gig, but because they don't necessarily sound "pretty" in the store, people don't ever get to know how good they sound in a mix.

Haven't tried the CL106 but I've tried the CL108. For an 810, it's tiny, but it has a very big sound, very reminiscent of the old Ampeg 810 cabs with the much-missed CTS speakers. Not at all bottom-heavy like the more recent Ampeg 810 cabs. Might have a bit of a high-mid hump, but that seems to be the Markbass MO, and IMHO, the reason they work so well in a mix. Wasn't so crazy about the CL108 at first, but the second time I tried it, I was sold, sort of. Didn't buy it, but if I was in the market for another 810, the CL108 would easily be at the top of the list.

Ah, Jimmy, here we go again.

Markbass cabs sound so-so at guitar center, BUT ARE ABSOLUTELY KILLER IN THE MIX.

Of course, unless someone goes and buys a Markbass cab and tests it out in the real world, they will continue to poo-poo it when they hear it in the store while battling the 100W Marshall Stack.

Have you ever mixed a bass track? Accentuated the mids to make it pop out? Roll off the lows so you don't compete with the bass drum? Figure out that all the highs that give "clack and clatter" seem to get lost in the cymbals?

Then listen to the remixed bass track solo and say, damn, that sounds nasal-ly and middy, but that's what works best...

That's a Markbass cab. :) (IMHO)

You just did a gig with it, right Torin? I'll tell you...it's shocking the first time you do it. Glad to hear you liked it, bro! I may have to pick up another one down the road.

OK I tried out both Mark Bass 104HF and an Ampeg 810 today in the shop with a LM head.

I loved the sound of both. The 810 actually sounded a bit fuzzy like a speaker was overloaded? Is this normal? It's brand new.

The 104HF sounded awesome.

The only problem I have is that the ampeg of course seemed louder and I actually think it might be easier to move. The way it kicks over and rolls felt like it would be easier to transport than having to fully carry a 410? Also putting it in the back of my hatchback I could just kind of tip it on using its own weight but with a 410 I'd have to totally lift it in.

So yeah now I'm back to wondering if I might be better off with a fridge?

I'm also looking at NV610s...

I'd definitely be looking into a Bergantino AE410 with the LM II. Has the nice punch and cut through of the Markbass 410 but does it a lot better with definition and has a more fuller balanced sound throughout it's frequency range. Sounds great in just about any type of music. A more balanced cab overall. Really love it with the LM II and so do a lot of others if you search the forum.

Man what an honor!

Hey guys I got a smashing deal on a Mark Bass 104HF today and am very very happy.

The only hiccup is the store gave me a non neutrik speakon cable with it and it's not working from my LM2s connection I think.

But I have a high quality 1/4" speaker lead and it sounds so so so killer.

Stoked.

Thanks so much for the advice guys, I love this forum. I bought this cab with so much confidence that it will sound great with my band thanks to you guys.

In all the discussion about Markbass cabinets, one thing that is often overlooked is the fact that our worldwide top-selling product... selling more than the Little Mark II... is the Mini CMD 121P combo.
We hear raves about this combo continuously.
And although the internal Little Mark II is partly responsible, this is of course a head and a cabinet in one unit!
So in fact every time you hear a rave about Markbass combos, it is definitely a big reflection on our cabinets, and especially the combination of Markbass heads and Markbass cabinets.

I think one very smart thing Markbass did was to put a high
powered head into a small combo box with a quality speaker.
Most small combo's have low power, giving them very little
headroom. Even when pushed, the 121P stays firm on the low
end due to the headroom of the amp. Accurate porting and
a quality speaker obviously help too. The fact that you can
run a real extention speaker for a powerful, loud, compact
setup is also a great selling point.
